THE resources HUB invites an experienced mechanical professional to lead a busy workshop, ensuring safe, reliable maintenance of a fleet of vehicles and plant. You will balance hands‑on mechanical work with practical supervision to develop tradespeople and apprentices.

Initially a 12‑month fixed‑term assignment with potential progression to permanency, this role offers a stable, community‑focused environment and the chance to impact workshop performance and service delivery.

Qualifications

• Mechanical trade certificate and current C and HR class licences are essential.
• Extensive maintenance experience across fleet, plant and equipment is required.
• Experience supervising workshop staff and developing apprentices is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead a workshop team of heavy‑duty mechanics and apprentices.
• Remain hands‑on with maintenance work and workshop activities.
• Coordinate daily priorities, workloads and resources to meet service standards.
• Maximise fleet availability through timely and cost‑effective maintenance.

Workshop Supervisor - Fleet & Plant Maintenance

This is an opportunity to take ownership of a busy workshop responsible for keeping an essential fleet of vehicles, plant and equipment safe, reliable and operational. You will combine hands‑on mechanical expertise with practical team leadership, helping experienced tradespeople and apprentices perform at their best.

Initially offered as a 12-month opportunity, with potential to lead to permanent employment during the assignment.

A Day in the Role Will See You

• Lead and support a workshop team comprising heavy‑duty mechanics and apprentices
  
• Remain actively involved in mechanical work, maintenance and workshop activities
  
• Coordinate daily workshop priorities, workloads, resources and competing operational requirements
  
• Maximise the availability of fixed and mobile plant through timely, efficient and cost-effective maintenance
  
• Oversee the servicing, repair and maintenance of a diverse fleet of vehicles, plant and equipment
  
• Maintain safe workshop operations and ensure the Workshop Safety Management Plan remains current and effective
  
• Review and maintain fleet maintenance systems, procedures and service records
  
• Monitor subcontractor performance against agreed service standards
  
• Provide practical mechanical advice when new plant and fleet equipment is being considered
  
• Identify opportunities to improve workshop performance, reliability, safety and cost efficiency
  
• Step into the Fleet Coordinator position when required
  

Your Application Will Stand Out If You Have

• A recognised Mechanical Trade Certificate
  
• Extensive mechanical maintenance experience across fleet, plant and equipment
  
• Demonstrated experience supervising, supporting and developing workshop employees
  
• The confidence to lead a team while remaining technically involved and hands‑on
  
• Experience coordinating workshop operations, priorities and resources
  
• Strong knowledge of maintenance systems and contemporary maintenance practices
  
• Sound understanding of workplace safety principles and workshop risk management
  
• Well‑developed problem‑solving, decision‑making and organisational skills
  
• Practical proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  

You will be a calm and capable leader who communicates clearly, builds positive working relationships and takes pride in delivering a reliable service. You will also understand how good workshop performance contributes to the wider organisation and the essential services it provides to the community.
