Job summary

Rentco Transport is seeking an experienced Workshop Mechanic to service and repair trailer fleets from our Minto workshop. This hands‑on role covers inspection, servicing and fault diagnosis to keep vehicles safe and compliant. You will perform brake and suspension work, welding, and maintain records, with a Monday–Friday roster and a strong emphasis on safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification as a Diesel Mechanic or Heavy Vehicle Mechanic.
• Experience working on truck trailers or heavy transport equipment.
• Welder/fabrication experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance on trailers.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults on trailer systems.
• Carry out brake, suspension, axle, wheel bearing, and lighting repairs.
• Conduct pre‑registration, safety, and compliance inspections.
• Perform welding, fabrication, and minor structural repairs as required.
• Maintain accurate service records and ensure safety standards.
• Attend to emergency breakdowns as needed from our Minto workshop.

We are seeking a Workshop Mechanic - Trailers to assist with the maintenance and repair of our trailer fleet. This position is based at our branch in Minto with a Monday to Friday roster.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and reliable Workshop Mechanic to join our growing team. Working from our Minto workshop, you will be responsible for the inspection, servicing, maintenance, and repair of a fleet of truck trailers to ensure they remain safe, compliant, and roadworthy.

What you'll be doing

Scheduled servicing, preventative maintenance, and mechanical repairs on trailers and associated equipment.

Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults on trailer systems and components.

Carry out brake, suspension, axle, wheel bearing, and lighting repairs.

Conduct pre‑registration, safety, and compliance inspections.

Complete welding, fabrication, and minor structural repairs as required.

Keep the workshop clean, organised, and safe at all times.

Ensure all work is completed to manufacturers' standards, service checklists and organisational safety expectations.

Maintain accurate service and repair records in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.

Attend to emergency breakdowns as instructed using the company field service unit.

About You

Trade qualification as a Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic or similar.

Previous experience working on truck trailers, heavy vehicles, or transport equipment.

Strong mechanical aptitude and fault‑finding skills.

Experience with air brake systems, suspension systems, and trailer maintenance.

Welding and fabrication experience highly regarded.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.

Current driver's licence (HR licence advantageous).
