JLE Group in Newcastle, NSW, seeks an experienced Workshop Electrician for its Manufacturing & Hire division. This hands-on role focuses on fabrication, assembly, testing, and maintenance of high‑voltage electrical equipment in a busy workshop setting, working with fitters and project teams to meet deadlines.

You will read electrical drawings, perform safety testing, and ensure compliance with AS/NZS standards and WHS policies, while mentoring apprentices and supporting continuous improvement in

Qualifications

  • NSW electrical trade qualification and NSW electrical licence required.
  • Experience in industrial/workshop environments preferred.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics and technical drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, wire, and install electrical components for manufactured plant, equipment, and switchboards.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, manufacturing plans and diagrams.
  • Perform workshop-based electrical installations on prefabricated structures, skids, panels and modular builds.
  • Conduct scheduled maintenance inspections and report required actions.

Description

JLE Group is seeking an experiencedWorkshop Electricianto join our Manufacturing & Hire division. Based in Newcastle, this role offers stable workshop-based work on high-quality High Voltage electrical equipment for major construction project, renewables & data centres.

About the role

This is a hands-on workshop position focused on electrical fabrication, assembly, testing, and maintenance of industrial equipment, mobile plant components, and custom electrical systems.

You'll work alongside mechanical fitters, boilermakers, and project teams to meet production targets while ensuring all electrical work meets Australian Standards and safety requirements.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Assemble, wire, and install electrical components for manufactured plant, equipment, and switchboards.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, manufacturing plans, electrical, architectural, and mechanical diagrams.
  • Perform workshop-based electrical installations on prefabricated structures, skids, panels, and modular builds.
  • Conduct scheduled maintenance inspections and report required corrective actions.
  • Perform functional testing, continuity testing, and safety verification in accordance with AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 3760, and relevant industry standards.
  • Complete compliance documentation, test sheets, and QA records.
  • Ensure all electrical work is completed in line with WHS policies, risk assessments, lockout/tagout requirements, and safe work procedures.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults on workshop equipment, tools, machines, and plant components.
  • Assist with continuous improvement activities in workshop electrical processes and manufacturing methods.
  • Work alongside mechanical fitters, boilermakers, apprentices, and project teams to meet build deadlines.
  • Provide technical support and mentoring to apprentices when required.
  • Understand electrical specifications and electrical theory to determine job requirements.
  • Plan appropriate layouts for electrical wires and wiring systems.
  • Identify the right electrical equipment for a particular job.
  • Ability to work in workshop environment including standing, lifting, and manual handling.
  • Ability to safely operate power tools, hand tools, and testing equipment.

  • NSW Electrical Trade Qualification and current NSW Electrical Licence.
