Job summary

• Role is located in Jervis Bay NSW

We are seeking an experienced WHS Manager for a Commonwealth Agency located in Jervis Bay responsible for overseeing community land, cultural heritage and local services in Jervis Bay NSW.

Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the proactive development, deployment and maintenance of work health safety strategies, policies and practices for the Agency. The WHS Manager is responsible for providing professional high level and operational advice and support in all matters relating to health and safety of staff and visitors including developing and managing policies, systems and processes.

Skills & experience

The WHS role provides strategic, operational and technical advice and support on workplace health and safety matters across the Agency. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing WHS policies, plans and systems, coordinating training and wellbeing initiatives, maintaining WHS records and reporting requirements, and supporting managers and supervisors to identify and address workplace risks and compliance obligations.

The position also oversees incident and Comcare claim management, prepares WHS reports for the CEO, liaises with external stakeholders and regulatory bodies, contributes to audits and government reporting requirements, conducts site visits as required, and ensures all WHS activities are delivered in line with organisational objectives, legislative requirements and approved budget parameters.

Candidates must demonstrate:

• Proven WHS management experience, including the development and implementation of WHS systems, policies, training and programs.
• Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement and performance management skills, with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential matters.
• Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, including policy development, reporting and training delivery.
• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Experience providing WHS advice and support within a community-based organisation and diverse workforce.
• Sound computer skills, including Microsoft Office and web-based systems.
• Experience working with senior leadership, Boards and within funding, compliance and budget requirements.
• A commitment to continuous professional development and contemporary WHS practices.
