About the Client

Our client is a large Australian Government organisation undertaking a significant uplift of their technology environment. You’ll be joining a highly skilled group working on complex systems within a secure and structured environment.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Windows Engineer to join a specialised capability team delivering systems engineering, software development, sustainment, and integration services within a secure deployed ICT environment. This long‑term role involves contributing to system design, build, automation, administration, patching, and third‑level support across Windows‑based virtualised platforms, while working closely with a small engineering team to develop, maintain, and integrate software components, support production environments, and provide technical advice for continuous improvement. The position is primarily on‑site in Canberra within a high‑security, high‑impact operational setting.

Key responsibilities
  • Designing and documenting Windows‑based system nodes and ensuring alignment with interfacing systems
  • Developing and maintaining software components
  • Building, administering, and supporting production environments
  • Automating installation and configuration processes
  • Providing Level 3 support, troubleshooting, and incident resolution
  • Managing system baselines, configuration control, and software inventories
  • Contributing to SOPs, training materials, and knowledge transfer activities
  • Developing and executing patch management processes
  • Ensuring system compliance against technical baselines and security requirements

This is a hands‑on technical engineering role requiring both independence and strong collaboration across a multi‑disciplinary team.

To be successful, you will bring advanced experience in Windows engineering, software development, and system administration in complex or secure ICT environments.

  • Strong background in Windows‑based software development (Microsoft development tools)
  • Proficiency in PowerShell, Group Policy, and Active Directory / ADFS
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab Actions)
  • Familiarity with KVM virtualisation, OpenStack, Ansible, and software integration
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex faults, including reviewing code written by others
  • Strong communication skills and ability to provide technical advice
Highly desirable

  • Experience with SharePoint administration
  • Exposure to Linux development or administration
  • Experience with deployable or remote CIS environments
  • Understanding of systems engineering processes or agile delivery
  • Additional scripting (Bash, Python)
  • Ability to work on‑site in Canberra for the majority of the engagement
What is on Offer
  • Long‑term Contract: Until 30 June 2027 with 2 × 12 month extension options
  • Contract engagement with a major Australian Government client.
  • Opportunity to work on a high‑impact technology uplift program.
  • Canberra‑based role within a collaborative and high‑performing technical team.
