Job summary

The BUSY School Online is seeking a Wellbeing Support Coordinator to support a year cohort (up to 8 classes) of disengaged senior students (Years 11–12) in an online environment, with a focus on trauma-informed practice and relationship-based mentoring.

Working within the BUSY School Student Wellbeing team, under the Head of Wellbeing and Inclusion, you will promote wellbeing programs and connect students to online or local support services as needed.

Qualifications

  • Qualification in Social Work, Youth Work, Psychology, Counselling, Education, Student Support, Behavioural Science or related field is desirable
  • Experience supporting wellbeing and inclusion, online setting desirable
  • Strong digital literacy and communication skills
  • Blue Card eligibility prior to commencement
  • National Police Check

The BUSY School Online (TBSO) is an online platform of the BUSY School, which is part of The BUSY Group, a not-for-profit organisation presenting nearly 50years as a community partner providing employment services, vocational education and training, apprenticeships, mentoring, Inclusive Employment Support, and allied health services.

The BUSY School (TBS) is an independent Queensland Special Assistance School offering alternative education for students in Years 11 and 12 who have disengaged from mainstream education. The BUSY School Online (TBSO) is a platform offered by TBS that provides an alternative, flexible, high-support online education pathway for young people in Years 11 and 12 who face significant barriers.

TBSO provides a supportive and safe learning environment for young people by providing them with an education program that includes online curriculum, vocational education and training (VET), work experience and opportunities for school-based apprenticeships and traineeships. Our team support the students to gain employability and transferability skills to increases their sense of wellbeing, resilience, belonging, academic achievement, career exploration and employment outcomes.

Our teams' focus is centred at removing barriers so students can learn, remain eligible for a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) and gain employment or further training outcomes upon student's graduation from Year 12.

About the position

The TBSO Wellbeing Coordinator provides support to a year cohort (up to 8 classes) of disengaged or geographically isolated senior students (Years 11&12) who have faced complex barriers to traditional education (such as trauma, mental health conditions, or neurodivergence). Operating in an online environment, the position requires a heavy focus on trauma-informed practice, relationship-based mentoring and online student support management.

The Wellbeing Support Coordinator (WSC) is part of the overarching BUSY School Student Wellbeing team and is supported by The Head of Wellbeing & Inclusion and the Assistant Head of Wellbeing. The Wellbeing Support Coordinator (WSC) will provide the overarching, next layer of wellbeing support and case management for TBSO students, supporting the Student Support Officers (SSO) who engage with students in daily classes.

The Wellbeing Support Coordinator (WSC) will promote student wellbeing through the facilitation of online wellbeing programs including (but not limited to) whole-school wellbeing frameworks and preventative programs. The Wellbeing Support Coordinator (WSC) will work closely with BUSY health practitioners to support student wellbeing and to connect students to online or local support agencies as needed.

Desired Skills and Experience
About you
  • A qualification in Social Work, Youth Work, Psychology, Counselling, Education, Student Support, Behavioural Science or a related field is desirable
  • Experience supporting young people's wellbeing, engagement, safety and inclusion is essential and in an online setting is desirable
  • Strong digital literacy, high empathy and excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Blue Card (or eligibility to obtain prior to commencement)
  • National Police Check
