Job summary

Calbah Industries is seeking an experienced Welding Inspector / Welding Supervisor / QA Engineer to join our team. The role focuses on welding quality, inspection, traceability and compliance across large steel fabrication projects with AS/NZS standards.

You will collaborate with Production, Project Managers and QA teams to ensure drawings, WPS and WPQR adherence, maintain MDRs, ITPs and quality records, and support continuous improvement on-site at multiple facilities.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in structural steel fabrication, welding inspection or QA.
• Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and welding documentation.
• Experience preparing MDRs, ITPs and quality records.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Exposure to VicRoads, Rail, Infrastructure or Mining projects.

Responsibilities

• Welding Inspection & Quality Control: conduct visual inspections, dimensional checks, verify compliance with WPS, WPQR and project specs, review weld maps and NDT records, ensure AS/NZS 1554, AS/NZS 5131 and ISO 3834 compliance, monitor welding activities and provide technical guidance.

With four fabrication facilities, advanced manufacturing technology, robotic welding systems, and AS/NZS 5131 CC3 certification, we continue to grow and are seeking an experienced Welding Inspector / Welding Supervisor / QA Engineer to join our team.

About the Role

This is a hands-on position responsible for welding quality, inspection, compliance, traceability, and quality assurance activities across a wide range of fabricated steel projects.

You will work closely with Production, Project Managers, Engineering and QA teams to ensure all fabrication activities comply with project specifications, Australian Standards and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Welding Inspection & Quality Control

• Conduct visual welding inspections and dimensional checks.
• Verify compliance with WPS, WPQR and project specifications.
• Review weld maps, NDT reports and inspection records.
• Ensure compliance with AS/NZS 1554, AS/NZS 5131 and ISO 3834 requirements.
• Monitor welding activities on the workshop floor and provide technical guidance.

QA & Documentation

• Prepare and review ITPs, MDRs, quality plans and inspection reports.
• Maintain material traceability, heat number records and compliance documentation.
• Manage hold points and witness points with clients and third-party inspectors.
• Coordinate NDT activities and review results.
• Assist with internal and external quality audits.

Production Support

• Liaise with production supervisors, welders and project managers.
• Identify and resolve quality issues before fabrication progresses.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and non-conformance investigations.
• Ensure welding consumables and equipment are managed in accordance with procedures.

Client & Compliance Management

• Attend client inspections and audits.
• Interface with certification bodies and third-party inspectors.
• Ensure all deliverables meet contractual and Australian Standard requirements.
• Assist in achieving project quality objectives and delivery milestones.

Minimum 5 years' experience in structural steel fabrication, welding inspection or QA.

Sound knowledge of:

• AS/NZS 1554 Welding Standards
• AS/NZS 5131 Structural Steelwork
• ISO 3834 Welding Quality Requirements
• ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems
• VicRoads 630/631

Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and welding documentation.

Experience preparing MDRs, ITPs and quality records.

Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Exposure to VicRoads, Rail, Infrastructure or Mining projects

Preferred Qualifications

Welding Engineer/ Welding Inspector / Welding Supervisor certification (s)
