Job summary

Marand Precision Engineering – Moorabbin VIC is seeking a highly experienced Welder to join our precision fabrication team. You will perform MIG welding on carbon steel and, where required, TIG welding, interpreting complex drawings and maintaining tight tolerances for aerospace and defence projects.

You will work from engineering drawings, set up weldments and fixtures, conduct inspections, and contribute to continuous improvement while upholding safety and quality standards on site.

Qualifications

• Proficient MIG welding and TIG (advantageous) for high-spec fabrication.
• Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings.
• Reliability, punctuality and ability to work both independently and in a team.
• Fabrication experience from 3mm to 25mm material thickness.
• Attention to detail with high workmanship quality.
• Experience with relevant welding codes and standards or willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and work from engineering drawings, weld symbols, specifications and work instructions.
• Perform general fabrication and welding activities to required production and quality standards.
• Set up weldments, tooling and fixturing to meet component and project requirements.
• Conduct quality inspections, dimensional checks, and rework/repairs where required.
• Safely operate welding and fabrication equipment, selecting appropriate tools for each task.
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe work environment, ensuring equipment and tooling are properly maintained.
• Collaborate with team members to achieve production targets and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support a positive team culture through knowledge sharing, mentoring and adherence to health, safety and environmental procedures.

This position requires a highly experienced and precision-driven Welder with several years of hands‑on expertise in high-spec fabrication environments. You will primarily perform general fabrication and MIG welding on carbon steel to meet the rigorous standards of the aerospace and defence industries.

You will demonstrate a proven ability to interpret complex technical drawings and consistently deliver work within tight tolerances, ensuring alignment with mission‑critical project requirements.

• Proficient a MIG welding and TIG (Advantageous)
• Ability to read and interpret drawings correctly

• Fabrication experience from 3MM to 25MM
• Attention to detail with high quality of workmanship
• Experience at following Welding codes and standards or have the willingness to learn
• Ability to work with supervisors / Engineers / Inspectors / Coordinators
• Experience with record keeping
• Maintain production timelines and quality
• Good attitude and strong communication skills
• Overhead Gantry crane high risk license advantageous
• Must pass a weld test at interview stage
