Job summary

Mackay Regional Council is seeking a seasoned Water Treatment Plant Operator for a Permanent Full-time role in Mackay. You will operate and maintain facilities across eleven water supply schemes, four sewerage schemes, and three recycled water schemes to deliver high-quality water services to the region.

The successful candidate will bring practical experience in water treatment, disinfection, and process control, plus necessary safety certificates.

Qualifications

• Must-have operational expertise in drinking water treatment and reliability of process equipment.
• Strong understanding of coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation and filtration.
• Knowledge of disinfection systems and groundwater treatment processes.
• Relevant safety certifications and an active driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain Mackay Regional Council water treatment assets and related water and wastewater schemes.
• Ensure potable water quality in line with Australian guidelines.
• Contribute to ongoing improvement and on-call availability as required.

To Succeed In This Role, You'll Need The Following

• A current QLD 'C' class Driver's license
• Certificate III Water Industry Operations - water
• General Construction Safety White Card
• A current self-contained breathing apparatus certificate
• Proficiency in operating and maintaining critical process plants, including disinfection systems, to ensure potable water quality adheres to Australian guidelines
• Extensive knowledge of water treatment, encompassing coagulation and flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection systems
• In-depth familiarity with groundwater systems and treatment processes
• A current First Aid certificate or the ability to obtain one
• Previous experience obtained with operating water treatment plant assets

Willingness to undertake Certificate 3 Water Industry Operations (wastewater) training. Additionally, you should be prepared for after-hours work on an on-call and call-out basis throughout the Mackay region.
