Job summary

A local council in New South Wales seeks a Water Filtration Plant Operator responsible for operating and maintaining the water filtration plant and infrastructure. Job description
Overview

Bathurst Regional Council is seeking to employ Water Filtration Plant Operators within the Water and Waste section of the Council’s Engineering Services Department. The successful applicants will be enthusiastic, self-motivated and able to work alone and in a team environment carrying out a variety of tasks to satisfy the requirements of the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines. The Water Filtration Plant Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining Council's water filtration plant and bulk water infrastructure in Bathurst as part of a team. The successful applicant will also be required to carry out dam surveillance tasks and be on call in rotation with other staff.

Candidates require a sound knowledge in production and/or maintenance of complex plant and equipment. A qualification in water treatment, chemical dosing or dam ranging will be highly regarded.

On-the-Job Learning
  • Advanced Water Treatment Skills: Gain hands-on experience with chemical dosing systems, filtration processes, and SCADA/automation technology.
  • Dam and Catchment Management: Training in dam surveillance, hydrology basics, and safety inspections.
  • Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Work with complex pumps, valves, and electrical/mechanical systems, building strong trade-level competencies.
Key Requirements
  • Current Class C Drivers Licence
  • Sound knowledge in production and/or maintenance of complex plant and equipment
  • Ability to work alone and in a team environment

  • General Construction Induction (White Card)
  • Must be able to swim
  • Ability to work on-call and overtime including weekends, on a regular basis
Formal Training & Certifications
  • Certificate III or IV in Water Industry Operations
  • Confined-Space Entry, Working at Heights, and High-Risk Work licences

Additional Information

These positions require a pre-employment health assessment which includes a functional, audio and drug & alcohol screen. Shortlisted applicants may be required to undertake psychometric testing prior to appointment.

Salary: $1,155.40 to $1,213.83 per week + Adverse Working Conditions Allowance of $18.92 per week + super.

Position Status: Permanent Full time

Hours of work: 38 hours per week with an RDO every third week and rotating on-call including weekends
