Job summary

Glenorchy City Council is seeking a Waste Operations and Plant Operator to support the safe and efficient delivery of Council’s waste services in Tasmania. The role involves operating litter collection vehicles and landfill plant, collecting waste, and maintaining kerbside bins.

You will assist customers, manage materials, and keep records while contributing to a safe, clean workplace across a seven‑day operation with weekend and public holiday availability.

Qualifications

• Experience operating machinery and equipment in a practical setting.
• Experience in waste, landfill, resource recovery or comparable operations.
• Ability to undertake physical and manual duties safely and efficiently.
• Good time management, initiative and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate plant, machinery, vehicles and associated equipment safely.
• Collect and transport waste from Council facilities and public spaces.
• Support landfill and resource recovery operations.
• Assist customers and direct traffic within operational areas.
• Sort and manage reusable and recyclable materials.
• Deliver, repair and maintain kerbside waste, recycling and FOGO bins.
• Maintain accurate operational records.
• Contribute to a safe, clean and well-organised workplace.
