Job summary

St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital (SAWMH) in Spring Hill is seeking Ward Registered Medical Officers for a limited hours hospital call role supported by a 24/7 ICU team. Shifts run 08:00–24:00 on weekdays and 08:00–18:00 on weekends, with day-to-day supervision from ICU leadership.

Accreditation in Advanced Life Support is essential and CALS familiarity is highly recommended. The role involves ward rounds, rapid assessment, MERT and CODE BLUE participation, and coordination with ICU and

Qualifications

Current accreditation in Advanced Life Support is essential.
Familiarity with Cardiac Advance Life Support (CALS) guidelines is highly recommended.
Experience in ward rounds and critical care coordination.

Responsibilities

Perform a general round of the hospital wards at least once per shift.
Communicate significant changes in a patient’s condition with the admitting VMO.
Ensure timely clinical assessment and initial investigations when needed, in consultation with the admitting VMO.
Attend all MERT calls and arrange management plans with the admitting VMO.
Attend CODE BLUE calls with the ICU team and participate in ward rounds led by ICU specialists.
Liaise with treating VMOs and assist with unit educational programs.
Perform ICU pre-admissions on open-heart surgical cases and post-ICU discharge reviews.
Provide clinical handover of patients of concern to the Ward RMO or ICU RMO.
