Job summary

Walcha Council in New England High Country is seeking a strategic tourism leader to shape and implement a new destination strategy. Reporting to the Director Community Services, you will build a program to grow the visitor economy and position Walcha as a standout regional destination.

This permanent, full-time role offers a competitive salary up to AU$120,000 plus super and relocation support, the chance to build the function from the ground up, and close access to council leadership.

Qualifications

• Experience growing visitation and tourism outcomes.
• Strong relationship-building with community and industry stakeholders.
• Ability to translate strategy into actionable plans.
• Experience in local government is advantageous.

A newly restructured, greenfields role shaping and implementing Walcha's tourism strategy. Reporting to the Director Community Services, you will build a strategic approach to grow the visitor economy and position Walcha as a destination in its own right.

What you'll be doing

• Develop, implement and monitor a destination strategy to grow the visitor economy
• Act as Council's specialist point of contact on tourism matters internally and externally
• Foster strong relationships with tourism operators and the Walcha Business Group
• Grow overnight visitation through famils, conferencing, product development and marketing
• Manage Council's digital tourism assets and support the Visitor Information Centre

Who this role suits

• Background in tourism with a track record of growing visitation or outcomes
• Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills across community and industry
• Ability to see the bigger strategic picture while remaining comfortable in the detail
• Confidence engaging with local government, business groups and community stakeholders
• A tourism-related qualification is desirable but not essential
