Job description

Established in 1875, Presbyterian Ladies' College (PLC), Melbourne, is a Christian independent school with a longstanding commitment to girls' education. Its 16-hectare campus in Melbourne's east provides a connected setting for learning, wellbeing and personal development, with boarding available from Year 7. PLC seeks to prepare young women of character who will flourish in every aspect of their lives and change the world for good.

Presbyterian Ladies' College is experiencing a time of growth and refresh. With a new strategic plan beginning in 2027, the role of Vice Principal is a pivotal appointment and an exciting new executive position, created to provide strategic and operational support to the Principal. Reporting to the Principal, the Vice Principal is an exceptional opportunity to influence the future of the College. The Vice Principal holds a senior executive role spanning strategic leadership, daily operations and the quality of the student experience from ELC to Year 12. This is an opportunity to strengthen coherence across the College, working closely with Heads of School, the Director of Boarding and fellow executives, and deputise for the Principal as required.

The Vice Principal will lead an integrated approach to wellbeing and flourishing, informed by contemporary research into girls' development. The portfolio connects inclusion, transitions, student voice, co-curricular learning and service, while overseeing educational compliance, risk and the effective operation of College life. Success will depend on translating strategy into consistent practice and evaluating its impact on students.

PLC seeks an experienced executive educational leader who combines strategic judgement with calm operational leadership, warmth and integrity. The successful candidate will build trust, connect people, develop leaders and work constructively and collaboratively across portfolios, bringing a strong Christian faith and a deep commitment to the College's purpose and mission.

Key Selection Criteria
  • Commitment to Christian faith and leadership that strengthens PLC's mission and a compassionate, inclusive culture across the College.
  • Demonstrated expertise in integrating learning and wellbeing, child safety, inclusion and the holistic development of students through evidence-informed practices and initiatives across a whole school context
  • Proven capacity to provide visionary leadership and translate College strategy into sustained organisational improvement, evaluating the impact of change on student experience and outcomes.
  • Proven ability to lead, develop and inspire staff, to coach and develop leaders, build collaborative teams and strengthen professional accountability across a complex educational community.
  • Demonstrated expertise in College-wide operations, educational compliance, safeguarding and risk, with sound judgement in managing complex and sensitive matters.
  • Exceptional capacity to engage students, staff, families and external partners, building trust and resolving concerns with empathy, clarity and discretion.

This is a full-time executive appointment on a fixed-term, five-year contract. Commencement date is negotiable.

Relevant educational qualifications, including student wellbeing, are required, with postgraduate credentials preferred. Applicants must hold, or be able to obtain, the VIT registration / Employee Working with Children Check required for the appointment.

Appointments are subject to a satisfactory National Police Check and required compliance training and certification.

PLC is committed to being a Child Safe organisation where the safety, wellbeing and best interests of children and young people are at the centre of all it does. The College has zero tolerance for child abuse. All staff must uphold its child safety policies and applicable child protection obligations.

Applications close 5pm AEDT, Friday 13 November 2026.
