Job summary

Platinum Pacific Partners in Sydney seeks an accomplished banking and finance lawyer to lead complex loan transactions and manage commercial risk. You will own deal outcomes, coordinate deal teams, and draft mandate docs in a high‑velocity environment.

Based in Sydney and reporting to the Head of Legal in Singapore, this autonomous seat offers exposure across Asia Pacific and requires a proactive, entrepreneurial approach and strong relationship building with stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 years' experience as a lawyer within a top tier law firm covering banking and finance, leveraged finance or structured finance transactions.
• Commercial lawyer who thinks like a banker and takes ownership of deal outcomes.
• Proactive self-starter who engages early on deals.
• Relationship-driven operator with network across stakeholder teams and markets.

Responsibilities

• Providing transaction support and commercial risk management across complex loan execution, including underwritten and syndicated loans and all ancillary documentation.
• Coordinating and leading deal teams, with responsibility for timely transaction execution.
• Structuring, negotiating and drafting mandate documentation and term sheets.
• Owning the loan documentation process, reviewing and negotiating from a commercial perspective, focusing on acquisition finance and structured transactions.
• Supporting the integration of loans and bonds to deliver debt financing solutions.
• Liaising with clients, external lawyers, trustees and other transaction parties; coordinating with regional origination and distribution teams.
• Advising on commercial and legal risks, including monitoring regulatory changes across Asia Pacific.

Job description

Our client is a major global financial group with an extensive presence across Asia Pacific, Europe and America. Within its banking division, the Capital Markets legal team provides transaction support and commercial risk management across complex loan execution, spanning underwritten and syndicated loans, acquisition finance and structured transactions.

With a recent promotion, the team is looking to add headcount to the team. Based in Sydney and reporting to the Head of Legal in Singapore, this is a genuine autonomous seat suited to a proactive self-starter who is keen to build their own profile and relationships across the business to drive negotiations forward.

Key Responsibilities

• Providing transaction support and commercial risk management across complex loan execution, including underwritten and syndicated loans and all ancillary documentation
• Coordinating and leading deal teams, with responsibility for timely transaction execution
• Structuring, negotiating and drafting mandate documentation and term sheets
• Owning the loan documentation process, reviewing and negotiating from a commercial perspective (distinct from legal review), with a focus on acquisition finance and structured transactions
• Supporting the integration of loans and bonds to deliver optimal debt financing solutions
• Liaising with clients, external lawyers, trustees and other transaction parties, and working closely with regional origination and distribution teams
• Coordinating internal stakeholders and advising on commercial and legal risks, including monitoring regulatory change across Asia Pacific

The Ideal Candidate

• Minimum 6 years' experience as a lawyer within a top tier law firm covering banking and finance, leveraged finance or structured finance transactions
• A genuinely commercial lawyer who thinks like a banker as well as a lawyer, comfortable owning deal outcomes and driving negotiations
• A proactive self-starter who creates their own early engagement on deals
• An entrepreneurial, relationship-driven operator, happy to build their own profile and network across stakeholder teams and markets
• Experience preparing and negotiating confirmations for vanilla and complex transactions
• Excellent attention to detail and an ability to manage a heavy and fluctuating workload with tight deadlines
