Job summary

Animal Welfare League of Queensland (AWLQ) is seeking a compassionate Part Time Veterinary Nurse for our Gold Coast Animal Rehoming Centre. Join a veterinary team focused on getting animals ready for their forever homes, through surgery, treatment, fostering and adoption activities.

As part of AWLQ, you will support daily clinical care, assist with radiography and anaesthesia, and contribute to a team dedicated to lifesaving outcomes for animals in need.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent is essential.
• 3+ years vet nursing experience is desirable.
• Excellent animal handling skills and clinic experience.

Responsibilities

• Support veterinarians with health examinations and medical cases.
• Assist in radiography, surgery, anaesthesia, and post-operative care.
• Nurse hospitalised animals and monitor clinical signs.
• Communicate clearly with staff, volunteers and carers.
• Manage surgery and consult schedules and enter health data.
• Ensure compliance with AWLQ policies and regulations.

We're seeking a compassionate and experienced Part Time Veterinary Nurse to join our Gold Coast Animal Rehoming Centre, working closely with our veterinary team to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of animals through the clinic so they can move forward to their forever homes. Key Responsibilities

• Support veterinarians with routine health examinations, medical cases and foster carer consultations.
• Assist in radiography, surgical procedures, patient anaesthesia monitoring and post-operative care, as well as in-house procedures and medication preparation.
• Nurse hospitalised animals, monitoring clinical signs and communicating with the team.
• Liaise clearly and professionally with staff, volunteers, foster carers and the community to ensure smooth operations and positive outcomes.
• Prepare and implement surgery and consult schedules, and complete data entry of health, treatment and behaviour information in patient files.
• Ensure compliance with AWLQ policy and procedure, as well as state and federal legislation.

Essential Skills And Attributes

• Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or a recognised equivalent, ideally with 3+ years' vet nursing experience.
• Excellent animal handling skills, including experience with anxious animals in the clinic environment.
• Experience working in a busy, fast-paced environment, with the ability to manage your own time effectively and complete tasks thoroughly, with strong attention to detail and within deadlines.
• Excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills, with strong teamwork and multitasking abilities.
• Good computer literacy, including the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Versatility, flexibility and positivity.
• Previous experience in a shelter or rescue environment will be highly regarded.
