Job summary

Animal Welfare League NSW is seeking a full-time Veterinary Nurse to join our Kemps Creek Veterinary Clinic team. The role supports animals rescued by Inspectors and our Animal Ambulance, and may include work with our Mobile Vet Clinic in regional communities.

You will assist veterinarians, administer medications, monitor vital signs, provide post-operative care, educate clients, and maintain medical records.

Qualifications

• Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing with 2+ years post-qualification experience.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of animal behaviour, anatomy and physiology.
• Proficient computer skills and ability to learn new software.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in surgeries, dental cleanings, and diagnostic tests.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by veterinarians.
• Monitor vital signs and record them.
• Provide post-operative care and monitor recovery of animals.
• Educate clients on proper animal care and nutrition.
• Maintain medical records and update patient information in the system.
• Clean and maintain equipment and facilities.
• Undertake Vet Clinic reception duties and provide nursing advice.

For over 60 years, Animal Welfare League NSW (AWL NSW) has been a leading registered charity dedicated to providing expert care for surrendered, neglected, and abandoned companion animals across NSW. We provide expert care to surrendered, neglected and abandoned companion animals across NSW.

The Opportunity

Animal Welfare League NSW is looking for a Veterinary nurse (Full Time), to join our growing team.

The role will primarily be based at our Kemps Creek Veterinary Clinic supporting animals that have been rescued by our Inspectors & Animal Ambulance or surrendered to us by their owners. You can expect to see and respond to a full range of patient needs, primarily domestic cats and dogs.

You will also have the opportunity to travel to regional communities to work on our Mobile Vet Clinic to deliver subsidized de-sexing, vaccinations and microchipping services. During times of crisis, our Mobile Vet Clinic is also deployed to affected areas to support communities during natural disasters such as bushfires and flooding. Our MVC team offer a safe haven for displaced animals, assistance with pet products and food and veterinary care to impacted communities during times of need.

Responsibilities:

• Willingness to undertake Vet Clinic reception duties and provide nursing advice in response to clinic enquiries

About You:

• Cert IV qualifications in Veterinary Nursing
• Minimum of 2 years of post-qualification experience working in a veterinary clinic or hospital
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Knowledge of animal behaviour, anatomy, and physiology
• Proficient in computer skills and ability to learn new software program
• Deep knowledge and compassion for animals
• Familiarity with relevant legislation, including The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the Companion Animals Act, is advantageous.
