Job summary

Brisbane Veterinary Specialist Centre in Queensland is seeking a Veterinary Surgery Nurse Assistant to join our busy specialist and emergency team. The role focuses on preparing, maintaining and sterilising surgical areas and equipment, while supporting vets and nurses to deliver gold-standard care.

You will contribute to hygiene, infection control and efficient clinical operations, with opportunities to develop professionally in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Set up, clean, disinfect, pack down and maintain surgical areas and equipment including prep, theatre, autoclave room, imaging rooms (cleaning is core).
• Contribute to hygiene and cleanliness within hospital treatment areas.
• Ensure thorough cleaning, sterilisation and safe handling of surgical instruments per infection control protocols.
• Ensure surgical areas are fully restocked to support efficient operations.
• Complete tasks on Nurse Assistant and Infection Control Checklists.
• Assist with patient restraint for procedures under supervision.
• Adhere to governance and WHS policies and BVSC standards.

The Role:

• Set up, clean, disinfect, pack down and maintain all surgical areas and equipment including prep, theatre, autoclave room, imaging rooms. (cleaning is the core focus of this role)

• Contributing to the upkeep of hygiene and cleanliness within the hospital treatment areas.

• Ensure the thorough cleaning, sterilisation and safe handling of surgical instruments in accordance to infection control protocols and industry standards

• Ensure surgical areas are fully restocked and maintained to support efficient clinical operations

• Complete tasks on the Nurse Assistant Checklist and Infection Control Checklists in a timely and proficient manner

• Occasionally assist with patient restraint for procedures (under supervision) as required

• Understand and adhere to BVSC’s governance and WHS policies to ensure tasks are completed in accordance with BVSC’s high standards of care and safety.

• Working 38 hours per week worked over 5 days: Monday – Friday 11am – 7pm

• A solid understanding of infection control, workplace health and safety principles, and safe manual handling

• Must be able to complete physical requirements of the role, with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)

• Flexibility and a willingness to take on a variety of tasks

• Must have Certificate II or III Animal Studies.

• Prior experience in veterinary setting is an advantage
