Job summary

Animal Referral and Emergency Network is seeking an experienced Veterinary Nurse to join as a Float Nurse, providing support across the hospital across Emergency, Surgery and other departments. The role requires flexibility, calm under pressure, and clear communication to ensure high standards of patient care.

You'll work with a collaborative multidisciplinary team, participate in ongoing education, and have opportunities for career progression within our state-of-the-art clinic in Canberra.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing (or equivalent) required.
• Experience as Veterinary Nurse in Emergency/Referral or busy GP setting preferred.
• Ability to work across multiple hospital departments and remain calm under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Provide support across the hospital as a Float Nurse, covering Emergency, Surgery and other departments as needed.
• Assist surgical teams and monitor anaesthetics as required.
• Care for hospitalized patients and respond quickly in busy periods.
• Collaborate with nursing teams to maintain high standards of patient care and workflow.

What you'll bring

• Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing (or equivalent)
• Previous experience working as a Veterinary Nurse (either in Emergency/Referral or within a busy GP!)
• Confidence to work across different areas of a busy veterinary hospital
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure
• Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
• A flexible, adaptable approach and willingness to work wherever support is needed
