Job summary
RSPCA NSW is seeking a full-time Veterinary Nurse on a 12-month contract to provide medical support to veterinarians and ensure high standards of animal welfare within our NSW network.
You will administer medications, assist in examinations and procedures, and contribute to the care of animals preparing for adoption. The role involves a seven-day rotating roster with after-hours on-call and requires Certificate IV in Vet Nursing and solid animal handling skills.
Qualifications
- Certificate IV in Vet Nursing or relevant qualification is required.
- Strong animal handling skills and knowledge of veterinary nursing procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
Responsibilities
- Administer medications with total accuracy.
- Observe animals for injury, illness, and behavioural problems.
- Assist in veterinary examinations, performing medical and surgical procedures as required.
- Prepare and assist with medical procedures, including X-rays.
- Perform nursing routines, fluid therapy, blood draws, and pre-operation prep.
- Provide environmental enrichment and exercise for animals.
- Assist with theatre routines, dental procedures, sterilisation, and desexing.
