Job description

Job Description

Veterinarian. Coastal Lifestyle. Real Variety with Clinical Freedom | Hervey Bay, QLD

What if your next role gave you the clinical stretch you’ve been craving and the lifestyle most people only get on holiday.

Veterinary medicine should be meaningful, not mechanical. It should challenge you without draining you, and inspire you without burning you out. You belong in a place that stands for clinical excellence and the community you serve.

Welcome to Wide Bay Vets.

Here you will enjoy a proper mix of cases - dogs, cats, exotics, birds, reptiles, possums, kangaroo’s and goats. With the nearest specialist a couple of hours away, you'll actually get to be the vet. Work cases up properly. Use the kit. Make the call. This place has a real ‘family feel’ about it, where everyone pulls together when there’s work, and relaxes when it’s time.

The clinic is well set up, digital and dental X-ray, ultrasound, IM3 dental suite, full IDEXX in-house lab, with great nurses, and a practice manager who keeps everything in order.

The Role

• 27 hrs per week (with some flexibility needed)
• $70/hr + super. 4 weeks hols - prorated.
• 1 weekend in 3-4 (not every single one)
• On-call Wed nights + 1 in 6-7 weekends
• 50% of professional fees after hours
• 2-3 vets on weekdays - you're not alone

Clinical Exposure & Development

• Predominantly dogs and cats, with regular exposure to exotics (birds, reptiles, small mammals)
• Wildlife cases and occasional small ruminants and pigs
• Wide case mix from routine consults to snake bites, tick paralysis and heartworm
• Opportunity to work up cases thoroughly due to limited nearby referral options
• Access to CT within 1.5 hours for advanced imaging where needed
• Strong scope to develop medical and surgical skills (orthopaedics a bonus)
• Potential to expand into large animal/farm work in future

You’ll Fit Right in If You…

• Have 2-4 years under your belt and can hold your own in surgery
• Stay calm when things get interesting (and in this job, they will)
• Genuinely care about doing right by your patients and their people
• Want a job where you can also have time to enjoy the area you live in

Location perks (because life matters too)

Hervey Bay is the kind of place people move to and never leave. Beaches, K'gari on your doorstep, and weekends built around boating, fishing, crabbing, bush walking and camping. Warm weather almost year-round with winters that barely dip into the low teens.

Great sporting clubs, good schools, parks and everything you need day-to-day, without the traffic or the city noise.Bundaberg is 1.5 hours away, the Sunshine Coast a couple of hours south, and Brisbane 3.5 hours when you need a proper city fix. There’s even a local airport to make the getaways easy. It’s big enough to keep life interesting. Relaxed enough to actually enjoy it
