Star Crash and Automotives in Underdale, South Australia, seeks a qualified Vehicle Painter to prepare color matches, spray paints and refinishes motor vehicle surfaces to deliver durable, high‑quality finishes in line with repair specifications and workshop standards.

You will inspect body panels, prep surfaces, mask areas, mix paints, set up spray gear, apply primers, basecoats and clearcoats, and perform final wet sanding and polishing, while upholding WHS and environmental requirements.

Formación

• AQF Certificate III in Automotive Refinishing Technology or equivalent trade qualification.
• At least one year of practical experience in automotive spray painting and refinishing.
• Experience with paint mixing, colour matching and applying basecoat/clearcoat.
• Knowledge of spray booth operations and quality control.

Automotive spray painting and refinishing form an integral part of the business's collision repair and vehicle restoration services. Star Crash and Automotives is seeking a qualified and experienced Vehicle Painter to join its workshop team on a full-time basis, supporting daily refinishing operations and maintaining consistent standards of repair quality, safety and efficiency.

About the Role

The Vehicle Painter prepares color matches, spray paints and refinishes motor vehicle surfaces to deliver durable, high-quality finishes in accordance with repair specifications, manufacturer requirements and workshop quality standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Inspect vehicle body panels and painted surfaces to assess paint damage, corrosion, coating defects and required refinishing work.


• Prepare vehicle surfaces by stripping or sanding damaged coatings, removing contaminants, filling minor surface imperfections and applying primers and undercoats.


• Mask windows, trims, lights and adjoining components to protect areas not requiring painting.


• Select, measure, mix and match automotive paints using manufacturer colour codes, paint formulas and colour-matching equipment.


• Set up, adjust and operate spray guns, air compressors and spray booths for automotive refinishing.


• Apply primers, basecoats, clearcoats and protective coatings using appropriate spray techniques to achieve uniform coverage and specified finish quality.


• Monitor flash-off, drying and curing processes in accordance with paint-system instructions and workshop procedures.


• Inspect completed finishes for colour variation, runs, overspray, contamination and other defects; perform corrective refinishing as necessary.


• Carry out final wet sanding, cutting, buffing and polishing to achieve the required gloss and surface finish.


• Clean and maintain spray-painting equipment and work areas; handle, store and dispose of paints, solvents and related materials in accordance with WHS and environmental requirements.

Qualification

• AQF Certificate III in Automotive Refinishing Technology or a relevant equivalent trade qualification.


• Minimum one year of relevant practical experience in automotive spray painting, surface preparation and vehicle refinishing.


• Demonstrated experience in paint mixing, colour matching, spray painting and automotive finishing techniques.


• Working knowledge of automotive refinishing systems, spray booth operations, quality control and manufacturer paint specifications.

Essential Skills and Competencies

• Competence in standing, filling, masking, priming and preparing vehicle surfaces for painting.


• Ability to mix and match automotive colours and apply primers, basecoats and clearcoats accurately.


• Safe operation and routine maintenance of spray guns, compressors, spray booths, sanding machines and polishing equipment.


• Ability to identify and rectify paint defects and complete wet sanding, buffing and polishing to professional standards.


• Knowledge of safe chemical handling, personal protective equipment, WHS and environmental procedures.


• Strong attention to detail, reliable time management, teamwork and ability to follow repair instructions and production schedules.

Salary:

$80,000 - $85,000 + Supper
