Job summary

CSL Behring is seeking a Senior Utilities Operator to join the Engineering Utilities team in Broadmeadows. You will ensure safe, compliant, continuous supply of utilities for Manufacturing in a cGMP environment, with oversight of bulk reagent and ethanol recovery systems.

The role requires 5+ years in industrial plant operations with leadership in regulated settings, strong HS&E knowledge, CMMS experience, and a forklift licence.

Qualifications

• 5+ years experience in industrial plant operations with leadership in a regulated manufacturing setting.
• Strong HS&E knowledge and quality, hygiene and compliance in pharmaceutical or other regulated environments.
• Proven troubleshooting, problem-solving and decision-making skills with safety focus.
• Ability to collaborate across functions and drive continuous improvement in operations.
• Experience using CMMS and basic computer literacy.
• Desirable: qualification in chemical processing or chemistry background; knowledge of hazardous area operations; forklift licence.

Responsibilities

• Operate, monitor and optimise bulk reagent, ethanol recovery and associated storage, transfer and distribution systems to ensure safe, compliant and reliable service.
• Manage chemical receipt, storage, dilution, sampling, release and distribution per procedures and quality requirements.
• Operate and support ethanol distillation and recovery processes and equipment.
• Perform plant isolations and support maintenance and return to service per procedures and permit requirements.
• Provide technical expertise to Engineering, Maintenance and Process Engineering teams; identify reliability risks and drive improvements in safety, quality and plant performance.
• Mentor operators, support onboarding and capability development across Utilities Operations.
• Support passivation activities and maintain regulatory documentation in CSL procedures.
• Identify and report spills, defects and abnormal plant conditions; keep Utilities areas audit-ready.

Your Opportunity

CSL Behring is seeking an experienced, reliable and safety-focused Senior Utilities Operator to join our Engineering Utilities team at Broadmeadows.

This critical role ensures the safe, compliant and continuous supply of utilities supporting Manufacturing operations within a cGMP pharmaceutical environment. You will provide advanced operational expertise across bulk chemical reagent and ethanol recovery systems, related storage and distribution infrastructure, and support effluent treatment, special water systems and passivation activities as required.

We are looking for a motivated and organised Senior Operator with strong technical capability, sound operational judgement and a demonstrated safety mindset. You will help maintain critical utilities, support manufacturing continuity, mentor peers, and drive improvements in safety, reliability, compliance and operational performance.

Your Role

• Operate, monitor and optimise bulk reagent, ethanol recovery and associated storage, transfer and distribution systems to ensure the safe, compliant and reliable supply of services supporting Manufacturing operations.
• Manage chemical receipt, storage, dilution, sampling, release and distribution activities in accordance with approved procedures and quality requirements.
• Operate and support ethanol distillation and recovery processes, including associated plant equipment, tank farms and transfer systems.
• Perform plant isolations, support maintenance activities and return equipment to service in accordance with site procedures and permit requirements.
• Provide technical expertise to Engineering, Maintenance and Process Engineering teams, identifying reliability risks and driving improvements in safety, quality, yield and plant performance.
• Mentor operators, support onboarding and contribute to capability development across the Utilities Operations team.
• Support passivation activities and maintain accurate operational, safety, quality and regulatory documentation in accordance with CSL procedures.
• Identify and report spills, defects, abnormal plant conditions and emerging risks, while maintaining Utilities areas in a clean, safe, compliant and audit-ready condition.

Compliance and Safety

• Operate in accordance with statutory OH&S requirements, CSL procedures, cGMP expectations and relevant regulatory standards.
• Comply with clearance to work systems, hazardous area controls and safe operating practices.
• Actively contribute to a strong health, safety, environmental, quality and compliance culture.
• Proactively identify hazards, reliability risks and opportunities to improve Utilities operations.

Your Experience

• 5+ years’ experience in industrial plant operations, ideally within bulk chemical handling, tank farm operations, ethanol recovery or similar process environments, with demonstrated leadership capability in a regulated manufacturing setting.
• Strong understanding of HS&E requirements, hazardous chemical handling practices and quality, hygiene and compliance standards within pharmaceutical, GMP or other regulated environments.
• Proven troubleshooting, problem-solving and decision-making skills, with sound operational judgement and a focus on safety and reliability.
• Ability to collaborate across functions, influence outcomes and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational performance.
• Experience using computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS) and basic computer literacy.
• Desirable: Qualification in chemical processing, chemical handling or a related field; chemistry background (Year 11 Chemistry or equivalent); knowledge of hazardous area operations; and a forklift licence.
