Job summary

Munich Re Specialty - Global Markets (MRS-GM) Australia is seeking an Underwriting Assistant to support policy administration, data processing and underwriting support while developing technical knowledge in a growing specialty insurance environment.

You will work under the guidance of the Underwriting Operations Specialist and collaborate with Underwriters to maintain process discipline, support workflow, and contribute to sustainable practices that enable growth in APAC.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years’ experience in insurance, financial services, administration, or customer service roles.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Support submission logging and tracking.
• Assist with preparation of underwriting files and documentation.
• Enter policy information into policy systems and process quotations, policies, and renewals under guidance.
• Complete quality assurance checks on policy data and maintain underwriting records.
• Collaborate with Underwriters and Operations specialists to improve processes and workflows.

Since its formation as a stand-alone division of Munich Re in 2023, Munich Re Specialty (GSI) has the ambition to become a profitable top-10 global primary Specialty insurer.

Complementing an already strong presence in the UK and the US, Munich Re Specialty - Global Markets (MRS-GM) has been tasked with expanding our primary Specialty business in continental Europe and APAC. We have begun the European expansion journey, and have now commenced our expansion in APAC, starting with Australia.

The Underwriting Assistant will support the underwriting team through policy administration, data processing and underwriting support activities while learning the insurance business and developing technical knowledge within a growing specialty insurance environment.

The role will operate within an evolving business environment, working under the guidance of the Underwriting Operations Specialist and in close partnership with Underwriters to support operational effectiveness, maintain process discipline, and contribute to the establishment of sustainable practices that support the growth of MRS-GM Australia.

The position is designed to serve as a development pathway into underwriting, providing hands-on exposure to underwriting activities, risk assessment, and portfolio management while building the skills and experience required for future progression into an Underwriter role.

Your Role

Underwriting Administration

• Support submission logging and tracking.
• Assist with preparation of underwriting files and documentation.
• Monitor shared mailboxes and workflow queues.
• Support the maintenance of underwriting records, documentation, registers, and workflow trackers.

Policy Processing & Websure

• Enter policy and client information into Websure.
• Process quotations, policies, endorsements and renewals under guidance.
• Complete quality assurance checks on policy data.
• Assist in maintaining accurate underwriting records.

Operational Support

• Assist with the execution of documented underwriting processes.
• Support data validation and reporting activities.
• Manage document storage and filing requirements.
• Provide support for operational projects and process improvement initiatives where required.

Collaboration

• Work closely with Underwriters and the Underwriting Operations Specialist.
• Develop effective working relationships with Underwriters, Operations colleagues and internal stakeholders.
• Participate actively in training and development opportunities.

Your Profile

Essential

• 1-3 years' experience in insurance, financial services, administration, or customer service roles.
• Strong organisational and administrative skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable

• Exposure to underwriting, insurance operations, policy administration, or broking support.
• Tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, Finance, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• ANZIIF qualifications or a willingness to undertake industry studies.
• Experience working with policy administration systems.
