Job description

We are currently hiring a Treaty Underwriter to join the P&C Treaty team in Malaysian Branch. This role is to underwrite existing and new business under the area of responsibility, and ensure underwriting efficiency. In addition, to deliver excellent customer service, identify new business opportunities in the markets, developing business relationship with our clients for IndoChina markets.

This role reports to the Team Manager.

You can look forward to

  • Contribute to the strategic direction and development of the treaty portfolio within the Indochina market.
  • Assist in initiatives to enhance portfolio profitability, diversification, and risk quality.
  • Coordinate with cedants and brokers in the region, serving as a supporting contact point
  • Contribute to the long-term profitability of the Indochina's portfolio.
  • Ensure pricing is aligned with risk appetite and return on capital objectives.
  • Track and monitor performance: achievements versus targets.
  • Evaluate and underwrite treaty reinsurance submissions (proportional and non-proportional) across various lines of business (e.g. property, casualty).
  • Negotiate treaty terms and pricing with brokers and cedants in alignment with underwriting authority and company strategy.
  • Monitor and manage the performance of the treaty portfolio to ensure profitability and adherence to underwriting guidelines.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with clients, brokers, and internal stakeholders (e.g. actuarial, claims, legal, and finance).
  • Participate in business development activities and market visits to identify opportunities and strengthen client engagement.
  • Support the development of underwriting tools, processes, and systems to enhance efficiency and decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and reinsurance market standards.

You come equipped with

  • Bachelor's degree in insurance, Risk Management, Finance, Actuarial Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the Non-Life Insurance sector, preferably in (re) insurance treaty underwriting.
  • Ability to communicate in Vietnamese and English fluently to communicate and serve Vietnamese speaking customers and Southeast Asia customers.
  • Strong knowledge of treaty structures, underwriting principles, pricing methodologies, risk assessment, and policy wordings.
  • Familiarity with regional market dynamics, client needs, and regulatory environments
  • Ability to interpret complex data, loss trends, and actuarial models for informed decision-making
  • Proficiency in underwriting tools and Microsoft Office; familiarity with actuarial/pricing software is an advantage.
  • Willingness to travel for client and broker meetings, as required.
  • Effective negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
