Job summary

Genesis Minerals Limited is seeking an Underground Production Mining Engineer to join the Gwalia team, based at Leonora, WA. The role covers mine design, scheduling, ventilation, paste & backfill, projects and production, reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer.

It is a permanent position with an 8 days on / 6 days off roster and options for FIFO Perth to Leonora or DIDO; residential in Leonora also possible.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or related field is required.
• Underground mining experience, ideally Gold or similar.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team.
• High enthusiasm and goal orientation for high performance.
• Dangerous Goods Security Card preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute drill and blast designs for long-hole open stopes and vertical capital development, with oversight from the Senior Mining Engineer.
• Support foreman and on-the-job production drilling and blasting activities, ensuring QA/QC compliance.
• Review drill and blast performance data daily to monitor progress and identify underutilised capacity.
• Coordinate explosive consumables to ensure adequate supply.
• Perform duties related to logging and blasting of operations.
• Contribute to mine planning, stope notes and level extraction plans, including stope shape optimisation.
• Identify and drive business improvement initiatives and support to the mining team.
• Liaise with external contractors regarding underground operational requirements.
• Review and maintain Drill and Blast Guidelines documentation.
• Assist mine scheduling by identifying production constraints and opportunities.

Job Statement

To support our continued growth, we now have opportunities for Underground Mining Engineers to join the Gwalia team. Based at our Leonora, WA underground operations and reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, you will ensure safe sustainable production from the Mine, covering all aspects of underground mining - mine design, scheduling, planning, ventilation, paste & backfill, projects and production. You will work closely together with the Senior Mining Engineer in driving the site towards a successful future. This role is well suited for someone looking to advance their career toward a Senior Mining Engineer and then towards a management role down the track and desires exposure to a deep seismically challenging mine. The successful mining engineer will be provided ample mentoring, training and guidance, as they grow with the operation and the company. This is a permanent opportunity, working 8 days on, 6 days off roster. The role may be Fly-in Fly-out from Perth WA, Drive-in Drive-out from Kalgoorlie or residential in Leonora.

The Opportunity

• Undertake the design and execution of drill and blast designs for the excavation of long-hole open stopes and vertical capital development, including raise-bore and box-hole drilling, with oversight and approval from the Senior Mining Engineer.
• Provide support both to the foreman and on-the-job during production drilling and blasting activities, ensuring compliance to standards and a maintained focus on effective QA/QC.
• Collate and review drill and blast performance physicals and data daily, including the assessment of long-hole drilling and stope bogging performance to monitor progress and identify underutilised capacity and opportunities for increased output.
• Coordinate explosive consumables to ensure a practical and sufficient supply is always available.
• Perform duties associated with the logging and blasting of operations.
• Contribute to the mine planning, stope note and level extraction plan process, including stope shape optimisation and detailed stope reconciliations.
• Identify and drive the implementation of business improvement initiatives, as well as providing support to other member of the mining team.
• Liaise with and provide support to external contractors in regard to underground operational requirements at Leonora Operations.
• Review and maintain the accuracy of the Drill and Blast Guidelines document.
• Contribute to the mine scheduling process by identifying production constraints and opportunities regarding drill and blast operations at Leonora.
