Deakin University in Warrnambool is seeking a Counsellor to provide evidence-based mental health assessments, referrals and short-term counselling to a diverse student community, within a trauma-informed framework.

You will collaborate with students, academic staff and multidisciplinary wellbeing teams to support student wellbeing, promote mental health literacy, and contribute to improvements across the University.

Qualifications

• Postgraduate qualifications in Psychology, Social Work or a related discipline, or progress towards postgraduate qualifications with extensive relevant experience.
• Registration as a Psychologist with AHPRA or membership of the Australian Association of Social Work (AASW).
• Experience providing evidence-based mental health assessment, risk assessment and short-term counselling.
• Understanding of the higher education environment and wellbeing challenges faced by diverse student populations.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills to work across multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience contributing to service improvement initiatives and delivering client-centred wellbeing services.

Responsabilités

• Deliver evidence-based mental health assessments, referrals and short-term counselling to support student wellbeing and success.
• Manage a range of student mental health presentations, including complex and risk-related concerns, using a student-centred approach.
• Collaborate with students, academic staff and multidisciplinary wellbeing teams to provide coordinated support.
• Develop and deliver wellbeing initiatives, workshops and mental health promotion activities.
• Contribute to service excellence through continuous improvement, critical incident response, clinical record management, and specialist mental health advice.
