Job summary

Mackay Sugar is seeking a Transport Operations Superintendent to lead the Cane Transport Operations Team in Mackay, QLD. Reporting to the Cane Supply Manager, you will drive safety, efficiency and cultural change across rail operations.

You will oversee 186 rail staff across three networks, manage a direct team of supervisors and planners, and champion continuous improvement in a heavy industry setting. This is a permanent full-time role offering development opportunities and a strong benefits

Qualifications

• 5+ years in rail industry experience.
• Experience in supply chain and rail planning & scheduling.
• Strong people leadership and change management skills.
• Background in heavy industry haulage and operational leadership.
• Commitment to safety and wellbeing of all colleagues.
• Experience in transport/logistics environments.
• Ability to prioritise conflicting demands and manage time.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality leadership to the Cane Transport Operations Team.
• Lead all Rail Transport Operations for safe and efficient haulage of sugar cane by rail from farms to factory.
• Directly manage teams: 3 Train Crew Transport Supervisors, 12 Train Network Controllers, 6 Operational Planning Officers.
• Foster culture of safety and continuous improvement across rail networks.
• Ensure schedule adherence and high service levels across three rail networks.

Job description

Reporting to the Cane Supply Manager, you will be responsible for providing quality leadership to the entire Cane Transport Operations Team. You will be accountable for managing and leading all Rail Transport Operations through the safe and efficient haulage of sugar cane by rail, from farms to factory for processing.

With a direct reporting team of 3 Train Crew Transport Supervisors, 12 Train Network Controllers, 6 Operational Planning Officers, all Leading a team consisting of 186 Transport Operations personnel across 3 rail networks.

As a minimum you will hold

• 5+ years in Rail experience
• Experience in Supply Chain and Rail Planning & Scheduling
• Ability to drive and foster cultural change through your strong people leadership skills
• Experience in heavy industry haulage and strong operational leadership
• An excellent focus on safety and a strong commitment to the health and wellbeing of all work colleagues
• Comfortable with working in a continuous improvement environment
• Demonstrated experience working in a transport / logistical environment
• Time management and ability to prioritise competing demands.
• Maintain high work standards with minimal supervision.
• Problem solve and show a high level of initiative.
• Respect for their team, and a strong work ethic with a hands-on approach
