Job summary

UGL is hiring experienced Telecommunication Tower Riggers for the western HumeLink works in NSW. You will join assembly crews on a large-scale energy infrastructure project, with opportunities to develop skills in transmission tower construction.

This full-time permanent role operates on a FIFO roster (14 days on/7 off or 6 weeks on/2 off). Flights to Wagga Wagga are provided and brand‑new camps offer accommodation and meals.

Qualifications

• Construction White Card and high‑risk licences required for field roles.
• Essential tower rescue, first aid and CPR elements form part of safety requirements.
• Experience on overhead transmission lines or telecom towers preferred.
• Ability to work at heights and climb towers safely.
• Medical clearance is mandatory before employment.

Responsibilities

• Layout steel for assembly per drawings and specs.
• Bolt and install members to meet structural requirements.
• Inspect steel and identify defects.
• Conduct checks on lifting gear and attachments.
• Understand lift plans and slinging requirements.
• Read lift plans and perform tower climbs (50–80 m).

UGL and CPB Contractors have been selected by Transgrid to deliver the ~140km western section of the HumeLink high voltage electricity transmission project.

UGL and CPB Contractors have been selected by Transgrid to deliver the ~140km western section of the HumeLink high voltage electricity transmission project.

HumeLink is a new 500kV transmission project which will connect Wagga Wagga, Maragle and Bannaby in regional NSW that will significantly increase the capacity of the electricity network in Australia’s eastern states. HumeLink is one of Australia’s largest energy infrastructure projects, with about 365kms of proposed new transmission lines and a range of other new and upgraded infrastructure.

The HumeLink West scope of works, worth $1.4bn, includes delivery of new 500kV double circuit transmission lines spanning ~140kms from Wagga Wagga Substation to a new Substation at Gugaa, the Interface Point with HumeLink East near Gundagai and a new substation at Maragle in the Snowy Mountains for future connection to Snowy 2.0.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Telecommunication Tower Riggers to join our Assembly and Erection crews. You will play a key role in our transmission tower construction teams, working with established crews on a large-scale infrastructure project. You will have the opportunity to further develop your skills and gain valuable knowledge of transmission line construction processes.

This will be a full-time permanent opportunity on a FIFO basis on a 14 day on, 7 days off or 6 weeks on, 2 weeks off roster. Flights are provided into Wagga Wagga, NSW and all accommodation and meals provided in brand new camps.

Works Will Involve

• Layout steel into suitable location for assembly


• Sufficiently bolt and install members to meet specifications


• Inspection of steel and identify / report defects


• Conduct routine checks on all lifting equipment, including hooks &/or attachments


• Bolt management and tightening process understood


• Calculation of load masses, assessment of lifting points & slinging requirements


• Read and understand lift plans for works


• Climb transmission towers ranging from 50-80m for erection works

• Previous experience working in overhead transmission lines or telecommunication towers


• Confident with the ability to work at heights and climb towers - essential


• Work to a high standard and be passionate about what you do


• Ability to undergo a pre-employment medical
