Job summary

NSW Health is offering a Transitioning Enrolled Nurse program at Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospital. This 12-month program supports first-year Enrolled Nurses to develop skills for safe, high-quality patient care in a supervised learning environment.

Two streams are available: General and Perioperative, with the option to indicate a preferred stream during application. Employment is temporary full-time until February 2028, with salary of $75,011.91 – $81,508.14 plus superannuation.

Qualifications

• Current registration or eligibility to register as an Enrolled Nurse with AHPRA.
• Nursing/Midwifery Board of Australia qualification in medicines administration including IV meds units.
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in an Interdisciplinary team and uphold professional boundaries.
• Demonstrated ability to advocate for person-centred practice.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe patient care as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Support and mentor peers within the transition program.
• Deliver care under supervision and take accountability for assigned tasks.

Transitioning Enrolled Nurse, Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospital

The Sydney Hospital/Sydney Eye Hospital (SSEH) Transition to Professional Practice Program for Enrolled Nurses is designed to develop and enhance the skills and knowledge of first-year Enrolled Nurses, enabling them to provide safe, high-quality patient care within a supported clinical learning environment.

Commencing in February 2026, the 12-month program offers two streams:

• General Stream: providing experience across a range of clinical settings.
• Perioperative Stream: providing the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills within the perioperative environment.

Applicants submit a single application and may indicate their preferred stream (General or Perioperative) as part of the application process.

As an Enrolled Nurse you will work under the direct and indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse and retain responsibility for your own actions and remain accountable to the Registered Nurse for all allocated functions.

Selection Criteria

To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the below questions as thoroughly as possible.

Current registration or be eligible for registration as an Enrolled Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) prior to the agreed date for commencement of employment.

Holds a Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia approved qualification in medicines administration including the required units of study for administration of intravenous medication.

Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills and be able to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others.

Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team and apply professional and ethical boundaries when dealing with complex situations.

Current computer skills and ability to use health information systems.

Demonstrated ability to advocate for and implement person-centred practice.

Demonstrated application of evidence-based practice and critical thinking to patient care.

Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritise and organise own workload.
