Job summary

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a motivated trainee Sonographer to join the Ultrasound Departments across several sites in the Liverpool area. The role combines clinical practice with the PgD Medical Imaging (Ultrasound) qualification, starting January 2027 and lasting about 24 months.

The programme includes rotations through General and Gynecological ultrasound, with some candidates pursuing Obstetric or Vascular modules, under supervision and with opportunities

Qualifications

• Training pathway includes PgD Medical Imaging (Ultrasound) during the programme.
• Clinical education across NHS Liverpool University Hospitals Group sites.
• Post begins January 2027 and lasts about 24 months.
• Successful completion of academic and clinical components is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform clinical ultrasound duties as delegated by the Lead Sonographer.
• When working in a single-handed unit to be responsible for the organisation of the workflow.
• Maintain a high standard of all aspects of ultrasonography.
• Issuing of diagnostic ultrasound reports according to protocol.
• Rotation to the renal transplant unit and the issuing of free text reports provided the necessary reporting level has been attained according to department protocol.
• To participate in multi-disciplinary team working
• To ensure effective communication with patients, carers and all health care professionals about all aspects of patient care.
• To maintain accurate documentation pertinent to the examination.
• Supervision and assistance in the training of sonography students.
