Dubbo Health Service, part of Western NSW Local Health District, is seeking an Advanced Trainee in Anaesthetics. The role covers general and regional anaesthesia across multiple specialties and requires ANZCA trainee status or eligibility. You will work within a supportive multidisciplinary team in a rural setting.

Position details: temporary part-time, 20 hours per week, based in Dubbo, NSW. Applicants should have 3+ years anaesthetic experience and be eligible for NSW registration.

Qualifications

  • MBBS or equivalent and eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Completion of at least six postgraduate years of medical practice.
  • Must be registered Trainee with ANZCA, or eligible for advanced training.
  • Ability to work independently in a supervised environment and in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general and regional anaesthesia for a wide range of surgeries.
  • Participate in all activities of the Department of Anaesthesia.
  • Support rural/regional practice through on‑call rostering and flexible service delivery.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and self‑education.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe patient care.

Advanced Trainee – Anaesthetics

A position is currently available for an Advanced Trainee in Anaesthetics at Dubbo Health Service. You will be participating in all activities of the Department of Anaesthesia. This includes the administration of general and regional anaesthetic for general surgery, Orthopaedics, Radiology, ENT, Urology, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dental and Emergency Theatre.

This position would suit an ATY1 or ATY2 ANZCA trainee (at the commencement of employment).

Dubbo Health Service is a major rural referral Hospital and part of the Western NSW Local Health District. It provides a range of acute inpatient and ambulatory care services including general medical and surgical, maternity, gynaecology, paediatrics, rehabilitation, critical care, mental health, renal dialysis, oncology, palliative care, hospital in the home and diagnostic services.

The Health Service also offers a wide range of primary and community health services including child and family health services, mental health services and antenatal and postnatal services.

Dubbo Health Service is undergoing remarkable transformations under the Dubbo Hospital Redevelopment project. With Stages 1 and 2 ($91.3 million) complete, the final Stages 3 and 4 ($150 million) will include:

A new Emergency Department and Short Stay Unit

A new Medical Imaging Unit

A new Ambulatory Care Unit

A new Renal Dialysis Unit (originally part of 1 and 2 works)

A new Critical Care Floor comprising of:

Coronary Care/Stroke Unit

Intensive Care Unit

Cardiac Catheter Laboratory (and Angiography Laboratory space)

A new front of house entry and drop off zone

Expansion to Oncology

A new Front of House entry and drop off zone

Upgrade of Women’s and Children’s Community Health; and

Additional car parking on campus.

MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.

Completion of at least Six (6) postgraduate years of medical practice.

Valid NSW Working with Children check.

Cleared National Police check.

Aged Care Check for Australian Government funded positions.

Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.

Must have a minimum of Three (3) years anaesthetic experience.

Must be a registered Trainee with ANZCA, have successfully completed the relevant Primary Examination as requirements of the College of Anaesthesia or prepared to have sat and passed prior to commencement of employment, OR the applicant is required to demonstrate eligibility for advanced training prior to commencement of employment and/or be eligible for partially or substantially comparable pathway through ANZCA.

Demonstrated ability to work independently in a supervised environment and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Effective oral, written and computer skills and demonstrated good organisational time management skills.

Evidence of continued professional development and commitment to self-education.

Ability and willingness to deliver patient care and preparedness and ability to participate in a shift and on‑call roster.

Demonstrated orientation to rural/regional practice through life experiences, medical school and/or residency, outlining evidence of commitment to the provision of health care in a rural setting, preferably with experience of rural or regional medicine.
