Job summary

Optiver in Sydney seeks a surveillance and markets professional to turn large, complex data into actionable insights. You’ll investigate alerts end-to-end, build automated detection and data pipelines, and leverage AI workflows to surface risk while aligning with regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent required.
• 3+ years of experience in trade surveillance or related field.
• Strong data skills with ability to analyze large datasets.

Responsibilities

• Investigate trade surveillance alerts end-to-end: reconstruct order and trade activity from market data and review communications to identify risk factors and potential market abuse.
• Analyze large market and trade data using SQL, Python and AI-assisted workflows to detect, evaluate and explain unusual trading patterns.
• Build and automate detection logic, tooling and data pipelines including AI-driven systems for faster, sharper surveillance.
• Leverage AI workflows to investigate alerts and surface risk, and help design and refine those systems.
• Design and test controls to detect and prevent market abuse and measure their effectiveness.
• Contribute to the ongoing execution and improvement of the Compliance monitoring and surveillance framework.
• Review surveillance electronic communications alerts and follow up to resolution.
• Combine technical skill with regulatory understanding to keep controls fit for purpose.
• Identify gaps in the surveillance framework and push improvements to mitigate risks.
• Advise on and support implementation of compliance requirements.
• Build strong cross-functional communication to enhance collaboration.
