Job summary

ECCO Safety Group in Melbourne, Australia, is seeking a Trade Assistant - Auto Electrical to support our auto electricians and production team across building light bars, harnesses and audio components. The role offers hands-on experience in skilled manufacturing and electronics assembly.

You will gain practical exposure to assembly of lighting and electronic sub-assemblies, test procedures, wiring techniques and stock management in a busy workshop environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist auto electricians in the assembly & production process of our product range.
• Cutting, drilling, soldering and preparing componentry.
• Material Handling, stock movement and workshop organisation.
• General labouring duties, safety practices and clean work areas.
• In-process testing & basic configuration of complete electronic assemblies.

The Role : Trade Assistant - Auto Electrical

You will support our auto electricians and production team across the building of light bars, light assembly, harness and audio requirements across our product range gaining experience in technical and skilled manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

• Assisting our auto electricians in the assembly & production process of our product range
• Cutting, drilling, soldering and preparing componentry
• Material Handling, stock movement and workshop organisation
• General labouring duties, safety practices and clean work areas

Tasks

Electronic Assembly

• Undertake in-process testing & record keeping
• Undertake basic configuration and testing of complete electronic assemblies.
• Mechanical assembly of lighting sub-assemblies, metal sub-frames and plastic lenses
• Utilises auto-electrical standard wiring connections between lighting components.

Wiring Loom

• Using automated machines to cut/strip/crimp automotive grade wire and connectors.
• Manually assembling wires and connectors to produce finished wiring looms.

Lights & Speakers

• Assembly of globes, reflectors, wiring and circuit boards.
• Mechanical assembly of speakers, horns and brackets.

Printed circuit assembly

• Hand solders and does touch up or light repair to product using detailed assembly procedures.
• Placing electronic components and wiring on circuit boards.
• Performs components, prepares, and loads PC boards using manual or automated equipment.
• Performs visual inspection to specifications (identify missing, wrong, reversed components and defective PC boards).
• Sets up and operates a variety of standard test equipment (e.g., Ohm meters, power supplies), unique electronic tools and/or automatic (PC) test equipment following written test procedures.
• Undertakes coating, potting and basic testing of circuit board assemblies.
