Job summary

MinRes is seeking Trade Assistants for the Onslow Iron operations in Western Australia. You will work in a hands-on role within a newly established workshop, supporting Heavy Road Train Fitters, Auto Electricians and Boilermakers on general servicing, maintenance and trailer repairs.

This role offers a 2/1 roster, a modern 1-acre workshop, and access to on-site amenities with a strong safety culture and opportunities for upskilling within MinRes.

Qualifications

• Full Australian Working Rights.
• Forklift Licence is required.
• HR Licence is required.
• Strong commitment to safety, Take 5 & JSAs are part of daily practice.
• Rigging & Dogging tickets are desirable but not essential.
• Experience in a busy Ancillary or Heavy Road Transport Workshop.

Responsibilities

• Assist workshop team with day-to-day tasks including servicing and maintenance.
• Support Heavy Road Train Fitters and Auto Electricians.
• Help keep Kenworth C509 fleet roadworthy and minimise downtime.
• Work in a newly established 1-acre workshop with dedicated bays.
• Contribute to safety procedures and Take 5/JSAs.

The Opportunity

This is a great opportunity for Trade Assistants looking to take the next step in their careers and who prefer to be in a hands on role rather than performing housekeeping and spotting duties. Reporting to the Workshop Supervisor , you will be working 2/1 roster rotating between day night shift and supporting a team of Heavy Road Train Fitters , Auto Electricians & Boilermakers as they perform general servicing, preventive maintenance, breakdown maintenance & trailer repairs to a fleet of Kenworth C509 Road Trains which play a vital role in the Onslow Iron Operation.

• Working in a newly established workshop, although currently a two dome set-up once finished you will be working in a 1 Acre state the art concrete floor, undercover 9 bay workshop facility with designated, servicing, fabrication, tyre fitting and component change out bays
• Play a crucial role in assisting the workshop team as they aim to ensure MinRes fleet of Kenworth C509s remains road worthy and downtime is kept to a minimum
• Assisting HD Fitters & Auto Electricians in their day to day tasks including the likes of: general servicing, preventive maintenance, component change outs and providing a swift resolution to any breakdowns
• Assisting Boilermakers as they perform maintenance and fabrication works to trailers and tubs
• All Kenworth C509s are equip with Cummins ISX Engines, Eatons Ultra-shift gear boxes & with a 3 axel heavy Sisu diffs

What is required?

• Full Australian Working Rights
• Forklift Licence
• HR Licence
• A Strong commitment to saftey, prior experience completing Take 5 & JSAs
• Rigging & Dogging tickets highly desirable- but not essential
• Previous experience working in a busy Ancillary or Heavy Road Transport Workshop
• Previous experience assisting and working alongside HD Fitters or Auto Electricians

About Onslow Iron

Our Onslow Iron project is set to redefine mining in Western Australia through world-first autonomous road trains, industry leading dust free transport and innovative tran-shipping.

Taking shape 150 kilometres east of Onslow, the project will ship around 35 million tonnes of iron ore per year and is expected to have a mine life of more than 30 years.

The project will encompass the Ken’s Bore mine (approximately 150km from Onslow), Onslow Port infrastructure and Onslow Truck Maintenance Facility.
