Job summary

Bowness Stud & Watershed Farm in Australia is seeking an experienced Stud Hand to support busy breeding season work and transition into yearling sales preparation. The role suits a confident horse handler able to work safely with broodmares, foals, and young thoroughbreds.

Key duties include daily care, breeding procedures, and coordinating with vets and farriers. Applicants should have strong horse handling, reliability, and valid work rights in Australia. Accommodation is available.

Qualifications

• Strong practical horse handling skills.
• Experience with broodmares, foals and young stock preferred.
• Confidence handling young and sometimes difficult horses.
• Good knowledge of general horse care and health.

Responsibilities

• Daily care, feeding and checking of broodmares, foals and young stock.
• Handling mares and foals during the breeding season.
• Assisting with horse movements and breeding procedures.
• Assisting vets and farriers.
• Administering treatments and medications.
• Monitoring horse health and identifying injuries or concerns.
• Handling and educating foals, weanlings and yearlings.
• Progressing into yearling sales preparation, including grooming, washing, hand walking, parade practice and stable duties.
• General stud and farm duties as required.
