Thoroughbred Breeders N.S.W. Ltd (Baramul Stud) in NSW seeks a full-time Horse Trainer/Breeding to oversee daily horse care, train broodmares and foals, assist vets with reproduction, and prepare horses for major sales at Baramul Stud in the Widden Valley.

The role requires managing staff and ensuring high standards of animal welfare. Essential criteria include a Certificate III or equivalent (or 3 years’ experience), 2+ years with thoroughbreds, and knowledge of the breed’s training methods.

Qualifications

• Certificate III or equivalent qualification, or three years professional experience educating/training horses.
• Minimum two years experience handling and educating thoroughbred horses.
• Knowledge of training and handling methods specific to thoroughbreds.
• For management positions, evidence of managing a team and breeding operation.

Responsibilities

• Overseeing daily care and supervision of horses.
• Training broodmares, foals and weanlings to accept equipment used around the farm.
• Assisting Veterinarians with ultrasound/reproduction examination and foal care.
• Training and preparing horses for major sales, including teaching to accept equipment and human interaction.
• Supervision of staff where required.
• Monitoring mare ovulation and pregnancy.
• Assisting Veterinarians in attending to medical and health needs of horses.

Education

Certificate III or equivalent qualification

Three years professional experience educating/training horses

Two years experience handling thoroughbred horses

Knowledge of thoroughbred training/handling methods

Experience managing a team and breeding operation
