Job summary

Life Without Barriers invites applications for Therapeutic Youth Worker roles in Sydney. You will support young people aged 12 to 17 whohave experienced trauma, abuse or neglect, including those with disabilities or complex needs.

The role requires flexibility to work afternoon, sleepover and weekend shifts in a 24/7 residential setting. Applicants should hold or be actively completing a Diploma in Community Services or a related field, and have a current Provide First Aid certificate.

• Provide First Aid certification is required.
• Experience supporting children and young people with trauma, disability or behaviours of concern is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support 12–17 year olds who have experienced trauma, abuse or neglect in residential settings.
• Assist with activities of daily living including personal care when required.
• Contribute to a safe, homelike environment and help develop life skills and positive relationships.
• Work a roster that includes afternoon, sleepover and weekend shifts.

Role: Therapeutic Youth Worker

Employment Type: Casual and Permanent

Locations: Bradbury, Bronte, Croydon, Glenwood, Homebush, Riverwood, Toongabbie, Prestons.

As a Therapeutic Youth Worker, you’ll be a key support for young people aged 12 to 17 years who’ve experienced childhood trauma, abuse, or neglect. Some of the children and young people we care for may also have a disability or complex medical needs requiring specialised support, including personal care.

You will be part of a dedicated to team working to ensuring a safe, homelike environment where these young people can thrive, supporting them to learn independent life skills, develop problem solving skills and to build appropriate and positive relationships with others.

Our residential homes operate 24/7, therefore it is essential that successful applicants are able and willing to work a roster which regularly includes afternoon, sleepover and weekend shifts. We will not be able to consider applicants who cannot fulfil this requirement.

• Hold or be actively completing a Diploma in Community Services or related field (or higher) OR hold relevant experience and complete Diploma qualification offered by LWB and willing to be employed on a permanent basis.

(Please note: a qualification is desirable but not essential for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants with relevant experience)

• A current Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) certificate
• Experience supporting children and young people who have experienced childhood trauma, have a disability and/or exhibit pain-based behaviours of concern (ideally within a residential care setting)
• An understanding of the importance of family/kinship connections to children and young people in placement
• Willingness to assist with activities of daily living, including personal care (if required).
• Able to work a roster pattern that includes shifts across afternoon, overnight (including sleepover) and weekends

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check, NSW Working with Children Check and NSW Residential Care Workers Register check.
