Job summary

Stepping Stone House is seeking Therapeutic Youth Workers for its 24/7 residential services in Camperdown. The role involves creating a safe home environment, implementing boundaries, and supporting young people with complex needs.

Qualifications

• A Valid Driver's License is required.
• WWCC and Criminal History Check, or willingness to obtain.
• First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain a safe and supportive home environment, building meaningful relationships with young people.
• Implement boundaries, structure and choice to help young people learn from experiences.
• Uphold behavioural support and intervention plans and support emotional and psychological growth.
• Teach independent living skills such as cooking, cleaning, personal care, budgeting.

We are GROWING and currently seeking passionate and enthusiastic Therapeutic Youth Workers for our Residential Services for our new program in Camperdown.

This is a shift work position where you will be required to work days, evenings, sleepovers and weekends as the house is operational 24/7.We have permanent part-time positions available with up to 60-hour contracts as well as casual positions.

Other locations you may be suited to include Kingsgrove, Blakehurst, Dulwich Hill or Matraville and will be discussed at phone screening based on experience with ITC.

What you will be doing – Key Responsibilities:

• Create and maintain a safe and supportive home environment, building meaningful relationships with young people.
• Implement the use of boundaries, structure and choice to support young people to learn from their experiences and choose alternative (talking out rather than acting out) methods of meeting needs.
• Uphold behavioural support and intervention plans and support the young people’s emotional and psychological growth as determined by their therapeutic and strength based individualised case management plans.
• Teach age-appropriate independent living such as cooking, cleaning, personal care, budgeting etc.
• Manage group dynamics and individual needs.
• Attend appointments with young people as required.
• Plan, facilitate and supervise engaging recreational activities.
• Complete necessary administrative tasks.

Required Qualifications

• Diploma and/or working towards tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology, community services, youth work or a related field.
• A Valid Driver's License.
• WWCC and Criminal HistoryCheck, or willingness to obtain.
• First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain.

Required Experience and Skills

• Minimum one years' experience working with disadvantaged young people in the Out of Home Care (OOHC) Residential Sector, other residential youth settings or similar field.
• Experience supporting young people with complex needs and responding to behaviours that may arise from experiences of trauma, loss and adversity.
• Ability to think and act calmly and deal with distressed young people sensitively, confidently, with dignity and respect.
• Demonstrated experience in the ability to maintain professional boundaries.
• The ability to effectively work autonomously, under supervision and as part of a team.
• Understanding and knowledge of relevant legislation such as OOHC standards and mandatory reporting.
• Strong negotiation, problem solving, conflict resolution and decision making skills.
• Ability to follow and implement structured rules, regulations and values.

Remuneration

The position will be paid at SCHADS Level 3 – Pay Point dependent on experience and qualification level. ($40.49 - $43.42).
