Job description

You see the big picture, you’ve always worked on a grand scale, and now you’re ready to re-focus on grand impact.

You've been developing your skills and are ready to work on projects that matter to the people of NSW. You know that quality matters and that delivering results requires a great team.

Want to be part of delivering a smarter, more sustainable rail network?

Sydney Trains’ Tangara fleet makes up a quarter of our suburban rail fleet. To ensure its longevity, the Tangara Fleet Life Extension project will upgrade operating systems, modernise onboard passenger information systems and enhance accessibility features for mobility-impaired passengers.

The project will also help build our future workforce capabilities, strengthen local economies and support the long-term growth of NSW’s transportation industry.

In this role, you'll:

  • Perform systems testing in accordance with documented test instructions as part of the project test plan.
  • Test trains and resolve any engineering issues that may arise during the test programme.
  • Be part of a new team of Technicians, supported by the Senior Engineer.
  • Document test results and provide detailed reports to the engineering team.
  • Perform minor repairs/component replacements to address test failures
  • Maintain and calibrate testing equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.

You will be part of an experienced team dedicated to repairing the Tangara fleet at either the Flemington Maintenance Centre or Auburn Maintenance Centre.

About you

Your technical expertise and problem-solving skills, developed across electrical or mechanical sectors, will enable you to excel in diagnosing and resolving complex system issues, ensuring seamless integration and functionality of equipment.

You are recognised as a meticulous and detail-oriented professional, skilled in conducting thorough tests and commissioning procedures.

You hold an electrical or mechanical trade qualification or have previous experience in test and commissioning. You excel in fault finding, communication, and lateral thinking.

You may also have a background in the automotive or heavy plant industries, and experience in rolling stock, defence, or aviation would be a great bonus.

The Tangara Fleet Life Extension project will see you working on a truly high-tech project that will enhance the lives for the people of Sydney for years to come.
