Job summary

KONGSBERG Australia is seeking a skilled Test Technician / Inspector for the KONGSBERG Missile Factory in Williamtown to support the NSM/JSM programs. The role involves hands-on testing, assembly, and rigorous quality control in a high-precision manufacturing environment.

You will perform production testing, operate specialised test systems, and ensure traceable documentation meets stringent quality requirements.

Qualifications

• Must have a technical qualification (Certificate IV or higher) in aeroskills, electronics, electrical, mechatronics or mechanical engineering.
• Experience using electronic test equipment and automated test systems.
• Experience in high-complexity manufacturing or maintenance environments.
• Experience assembling, testing and inspecting complex systems.
• Strong focus on quality, precision, compliance and technical standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform production testing of missile assemblies and electronic/mechanical sub-assemblies per docs and quality requirements.
• Operate and maintain test equipment, diagnostic systems and automated test stations.
• Conduct functional, electrical, mechanical and systems testing; record results accurately.
• Perform independent quality inspections and verify conformance to drawings and specs.
• Identify defects, raise NCRs, and support corrective actions and investigations.
• Provide technical feedback to Engineering and Production teams on test/inspection outcomes.
• Complete test/inspection documentation with traceability and accuracy.

About the role:

KONGSBERG Australia is looking for a skilled and motivated Test Technician / Inspector, to join our growing team at the KONGSBERG Missile Factory in Williamtown.

This is a hands on technical role supporting the manufacture, assembly, testing and inspection of the Naval Strike Missile (NSM) and Joint Strike Missile (JSM). Working within a high-complexity, low-volume manufacturing environment, you will play a critical role in ensuring our products meet stringent quality requirements.

Your day-to-day work will include:

• Perform production testing of missile assemblies, electronic modules, mechanical assemblies and associated support equipment in accordance with manufacturing documentation and quality requirements.
• Operate and maintain specialised test equipment, diagnostic systems, measurement instruments and automated test stations.
• Conduct functional, electrical, mechanical and systems testing and accurately record results.
• Perform independent quality inspections of electro-mechanical components and sub-assemblies throughout assembly and testing activities.
• Verify compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, manufacturing documentation and quality requirements.
• Identify defects and discrepancies and raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) where required.
• Support root cause investigations and corrective action implementation.
• Provide technical feedback to Engineering and Production teams regarding product performance, testing and inspection outcomes.
• Complete all required test and inspection documentation and data entry, ensuring accuracy, traceability and compliance.
• Collaborate across Production, Planning, Engineering and Quality to support safe and efficient manufacturing.
• Contributing to Lean Manufacturing, 5S, structured problem solving and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Sharing your knowledge through training and mentoring team members where required.

What you'll Bring:

• A Certificate IV, Diploma, Trade Qualification, or equivalent experience in Aeroskills, Electronics, Electrical, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience using electronic test equipment and automated test systems.
• Experience in high-complexity manufacturing and/or maintenance environments.
• Experience assembling, testing and inspecting complex mechanical and electronic systems.
• Strong focus on quality, precision, compliance and technical standards.
• Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
• Experience identifying defects and non-conformances and supporting corrective actions.

Desirable

• Current NV1 security clearance.
• Explosive Ordnance training.
• Experience handling Explosive Ordnance.
• Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116 or equivalent).

Flexible start dates | November 2026 – January 2027

International Training in Norway

As part of the role, successful candidates will be required to travel to Norway for mandatory specialised training. This is a unique opportunity to train alongside KONGSBERG's international teams and gain first‑hand experience with our global manufacturing processes and standards.

Mandatory Requirements:

• Must be able to access information controlled under the US International Traffic of Arms Regulations (ITAR)
• Must be able to obtain and maintain an Australian security clearance.
