Job description

Location of work: ACT

Working arrangements: Applicants will be expected to perform the role in Canberra working from the AEC's Canberra Office. Hybrid working arrangements (i.e., a combination of onsite attendance at an AEC office and remote working) will be considered at the discretion of the hiring manager.

Length of contract: Until 30 June 2026

Contract extensions: 2x 12 months

Security clearance: Must be able to obtain Negative Vetting Level 1

Rates: $60 - $80 per hour (including super)

Within the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC), the Funding and Disclosure Reform Program was established to enable the AEC to implement and administer legislative amendments to the Commonwealth Funding and Disclosure Scheme (the Scheme) as set out in Part XX of the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918 (Electoral Act) to increase transparency and accountability in Australia’s electoral system. The Program comprises three branches – the Program Management Office Branch, the Regulatory Enablement Branch, and the Technology Delivery Branch – working together to uplift the AEC’s regulatory capability by designing, building, and implementing new processes, resourcing, tools, systems, and technology to successfully administer the Scheme.

The AEC is seeking five Test Analysts to determine and carry out testing activities to validate the design and behaviour of systems and services.

Key duties and responsibilities:

This role will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Working within multiple development teams to understand the scope of product releases and develop acceptance criteria based on business objectives, functional requirements, and service level requirements.
  • Development of test plans, test scenarios, and test scripts for specific releases.
  • Undertaking testing activities including functional, integration, and regression testing for each release cycle.
  • Reporting and tracking the resolution of issues identified during testing.
  • Assisting with issue triaging.
  • Developing test reports.

Essential Criteria

  1. Experience in the test process, including preparation, test case design, test execution, defect tracking, and reporting. Strong understanding of testing methodologies (e.g., Agile). Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into test scenarios. Basic knowledge of SQL for data validation.
  2. Effective communication skills to foster a positive team culture and maintain effective working relationships.
  3. Ability to engage and collaborate internally with other IT areas, project teams, business units, and external service providers.
  4. Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
  5. Strong conceptual, analytical, and interpretive skills with high attention to detail.

Desirable Criteria

  1. Tertiary qualifications or industry-recognized certification in Information Management, Computer Science, or a relevant discipline.
  2. 2-5 years' experience in testing or quality assurance.
  3. Experience with DevOps and Selenium.
