Job summary

Cognizant is seeking an Industry Domain Architect – Telco to provide telecom-domain and strategic architecture leadership for a complex legacy modernization program. You will work with client stakeholders, program leaders, architects, cloud and platform teams, and delivery teams across onshore and offshore locations.

Qualifications

• Strong telecommunications domain architecture experience across enterprise capabilities (customer, product, order, service, billing, etc.).
• Experience in large-scale legacy modernization, application transformation, cloud-aligned architecture.
• Knowledge of capability-based architecture, API-first design, open standards, governance.
• Ability to evaluate interfaces, data migration, cutover, service continuity across complex environments.
• Executive communication, facilitation, risk management, stakeholder leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Guide architecture and modernization decisions using capability-based design and API-first principles.
• Support governance forums by identifying impacts, dependencies, risks, and priorities; translate into clear recommendations.
• Provide domain guidance across discovery, transition, migration, cutover, stabilisation, and decommissioning with focus on parity and continuity.
• Foster collaboration across business, architecture, engineering, delivery, cloud, platform, and supplier teams in a multi-party environment.

About the role

As an Industry Domain Architect – Telco, you will make an impact by providing telecom-domain and strategic architecture leadership for a complex legacy modernisation program. You will be a valued member of the Consulting team and work collaboratively with client stakeholders, program leaders, architects, cloud and platform teams, and onshore and offshore delivery teams.

You will connect business intent with architecture principles and delivery governance, helping ensure modernisation decisions support customer and operational outcomes, service continuity, and the target technology environment.

In this role, you will:

• Provide telecom-domain and business architecture leadership across customer, product, order, service, billing, assurance, credit management, and reporting capabilities (OSS/BSS).
• Guide architecture and modernisation decisions using capability-based design, open standards, API-first principles, and relevant client reference architecture guardrails.
• Support program governance and design authority forums by identifying business impacts, dependencies, risks, assumptions, and priorities, and translating them into clear recommendations.
• Provide domain guidance across discovery, knowledge transition, application transformation, migration, cutover, stabilisation, and decommissioning support, with a focus on functional parity and service continuity.
• Facilitate effective collaboration across business, architecture, engineering, delivery, cloud, platform, and supplier teams in a complex, multi-party environment.

What you must have to be considered

• Strong telecommunications domain architecture experience across several enterprise capabilities, such as customer, product, order, service, billing, assurance, or related functions.
• Experience contributing to large-scale legacy modernisation, application transformation, cloud-aligned architecture, or enterprise platform change.
• Working knowledge of capability-based architecture, API-first design, open standards, enterprise architecture governance, and architecture decision-making.
• Ability to evaluate functional parity, interfaces, dependencies, data migration, cutover, and service-continuity implications across complex legacy and target environments.
• Strong executive communication, facilitation, influencing, risk management, and stakeholder leadership skills across business and technology teams.

These will help you succeed

• Experience within Australian telecommunications or another large communications service provider environment.
• Familiarity with mainframe technologies and portfolios, including COBOL, DB2, IMS, VSAM, NATURAL, or SAS, alongside modern cloud target architectures.
• Experience working with AWS-aligned transformation programs.
• Knowledge of TM Forum-aligned concepts and telecommunications capability or process architecture.
• Enterprise architecture, telecommunications architecture, or program governance certification, plus experience in regulated, multi-vendor, high-availability environments.
