Job summary

Orica is seeking a hands-on Technician - Underground Mining Equipment based in Perth, WA. You will support underground blasting machinery across Western Australia and South Australia, performing maintenance, troubleshooting, commissioning and technical support.

You will work an 8 days on, 6 days off roster, travel to Orica locations, with autonomy and a focus on safety and customer service. Training provided to develop knowledge of underground blasting operations and our specialised equipment.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on maintenance experience with mobile or fixed plant equipment.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems.
  • Ability to diagnose issues and solve problems independently.
  • Comfort working on-site and managing own workload.
  • Clear communication when supporting customers or teams.
  • Safety-first mindset and understanding of safe work practices.

Responsibilities

  • Service, maintain and repair underground blasting equipment.
  • Find and fix mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and system faults.
  • Provide technical support and advice to customers on-site and by phone.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and minimise downtime.
  • Carry out equipment inspections, servicing and maintenance audits.
  • Assist with installing, testing and commissioning new equipment.
  • Build strong relationships with customers through reliable service.
  • Keep accurate service records and work safely to Orica requirements.

About the role

We're looking for a hands-on Technician - UG Mining Equipment (HcD Technician) to join our Mining Services team based in Perth, WA.

In this role, you'll support Orica's underground blasting machinery and customer-operated systems through maintenance, troubleshooting, equipment commissioning, and technical support across Western Australia and South Australia.

This is an excellent opportunity for mechanically‑minded people looking to apply their skills in a new industry. Whether you are experienced or not, we'll train and support you to develop your knowledge of underground blasting operations and our specialised mining equipment.

Working on an 8 days on, 6 days off roster, you'll fly to Orica locations across Western Australia, enjoying a high level of autonomy while providing technical support and training to our valued customers.

What you will be doing
  • Service, maintain and repair underground blasting equipment, including Hypercharge Drive Units (HcD).
  • Find and fix mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and system faults.
  • Provide technical support and advice to customers on‑site and over the phone.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and help customers minimise operational downtime.
  • Carry out equipment inspections, routine servicing and maintenance audits.
  • Assist with installing, testing and commissioning new equipment.
  • Build strong relationships with customers through reliable service and support.
  • Keep accurate service records and work safely in line with site, customer and Orica requirements.
