Job description

The Role

Adbri Cement has an exciting opportunity in our NATA accredited laboratory division for an enthusiastic candidate who is keen to up-skill and try something new based in our Cement Plant in Birkenhead, SA!

This permanent, full-time opportunity does not require any experience, qualifications or a degree, just an enthusiastic attitude and a desire to learn how to conduct compliance testing of construction materials relevant to the cement manufacturing process.

The role requires availability from Monday to Friday with a rotating weekend roster, working some Saturdays 7am till 11am at overtime rates.

Note that this role does require physical movement and lifting.

This is a 12 month maternity leave cover.

This role offers variety, working on the below rotations. You will receive full training in the following:

  • Sample Prep: Preparing all samples for testing through techniques such as riffling, drying, crushing, grinding, weighing, and registering all testing samples in the Laboratory Data Management System.
  • Mortar Testing: Casting prisms, testing the strength, shrinkage, sulfate resistance, temperature rise, setting time, and soundness of cement, fly ash, slag, and lime materials.
  • Concrete Making and Testing: Making concrete to Australian standards to investigate and test strength, shrinkage, setting times, bleed, air content, and mass per unit volume.
  • Chemical Laboratory: Testing all materials for various chemical characteristics.

  • Deliver accurate testing results in a timely manner, meeting all customer expectations.
  • Develop effective positive working relationships within a close team environment.
  • Adhere to procedures and work systems in a systematic, methodical, and safe manner.
  • Apply initiative and actively provide calculated recommendations for improvement.

What you will need to succeed

  • No experience or degree required. Previous laboratory experience will be highly regarded.
  • Pass a medical including a drug & alcohol test.
  • National Police check.
  • A commitment to safety, quality, and the environment.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Comfortable working autonomously and within a small team.
  • Strong literacy and computer skills.
  • Ability to apply initiative.
