Job summary

Downer Group is seeking an Assistant Laboratory Technician - Metallurgy to support metallurgical test work and laboratory programs. You’ll work alongside experienced Metallurgists to test, analyse and improve mineral processing outcomes for clients worldwide.

The role involves bench-scale and pilot-scale activities, with opportunities for hands-on training, mentoring, and exposure to lab, pilot plant and field environments. A positive attitude and safety focus are essential.

Qualifications

• Strong focus on safety and teamwork.
• Good communication skills and a proactive approach to work.
• Interest in minerals, science, engineering or processing industries.
• Previous laboratory experience is advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist with metallurgical test work and laboratory programs.
• Support bench-scale and pilot-scale mineral processing activities.
• Collect, record and communicate test results to Metallurgists.
• Help deliver testing projects safely, accurately and on schedule.
• Contribute ideas that improve safety, efficiency and laboratory performance.
• Work closely with technical specialists and engineering teams.
• Support plant trials and commissioning activities as required.
• Build your knowledge of mineral processing and laboratory operations.

As an Assistant Laboratory Technician - Metallurgy, you'll roll up your sleeves and work alongside experienced Metallurgists, helping test, analyse and improve mineral processing outcomes for clients around the world.

What we're looking for

• Forklift licence, or willingness to obtain one, highly regarded
