Overview

About my client: A leading Australian manufacturer of low‑voltage switchgear/switchboard and electrical distribution equipment is looking for a Technical Switchboard Project Engineer. The business combines deep engineering expertise with a customer‑centric approach. You’ll join a collaborative team where sales and engineering work side‑by‑side to deliver high‑quality solutions.

The Role

The Electrical Sales Engineer owns the technical integrity, feasibility and margin of all customer solutions. You’ll interpret drawings and specifications, prepare BOMs and costings, and liaise with engineering and operations to deliver compliant, buildable proposals. This role supports account development by ensuring every quote aligns with customer requirements and company profitability targets. This is the ideal role for a electrical engineer looking to get off of the tools, and work in a more client-focused, customer facing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical assessment and costing for customer opportunities in the LV switchgear/distribution segment
• Interpret single‑line diagrams, schematics and customer specifications to recommend compliant designs
• Create and review BOMs, sketches and cost estimates for custom or modified assemblies
• Collaborate with Engineering and Operations to confirm build feasibility and delivery timelines
• Contribute technical content and cost detail to formal tender submissions alongside the account team
• Track quote‑to‑actual cost variance; recommend improvements to enhance accuracy and margin
• Support development of quoting templates and standards for recurring work
• Engage with customer‑side engineers and technical buyers to clarify solution details and resolve issues

Ideal Profile & Experience

• Electrician trade qualification or Diploma/Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
• Hands‑on experience in technical estimation, panel design or applications engineering
• Confidence interpreting customer drawings, specs and AS/NZS standards
• Strong commercial acumen with a focus on margin preservation
• Excellent communicator—able to liaise with internal teams and external technical contacts
