Wood in Brisbane is seeking a Technical Safety Engineer to join our team, reporting to the Discipline Lead Engineer and supporting oil and gas projects with safety-case design and risk-based deliverables.

The role involves leading risk workshops, performing qualitative and quantitative studies, conducting consequence modelling, and developing FSA studies while ensuring ALARP compliance and adherence to industry standards.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree in Chemical/Process, Electrical, or Control Systems.
  • Around five years of safety experience in oil and gas.
  • RPEQ status or working towards it.
  • Understanding Australian onshore/offshore Safety Case regs.
  • Experience using PHAST, Safeti and FlareSim.
  • Ability to contribute input into various risk reviews.
  • Strong report-writing and cross-functional communication skills.

The successful applicant will report to the Discipline Lead Engineer and work as part of a busy project team delivering projects for clients in the Oil & Gas industry.

Responsibilities
  • Engage in various risk workshops and reviews (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP, Constructability Reviews) and incorporate findings into design requirements and Safety Case.
  • Prepare workshop Terms of Reference documentation and workshop reports.
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative risk‑based studies on new and existing facilities.
  • Conduct Consequence Modelling using PHAST software.
  • Develop FSA Studies including FERA, NFHA, EERA, ESSA.
  • Provide technical input on industry best practices related to ALARP requirements, loss prevention codes, and standards.
Qualifications
  • An engineering degree in a relevant discipline (Chemical/Process, Electrical, or Control Systems engineering strongly encouraged).
  • Some previous technical safety experience within the oil and gas industry (ideally around five years).
  • RPEQ status, or actively working towards achieving RPEQ.
  • An understanding of onshore and offshore Australian Safety Case regulations.
  • Experience operating DNV PHAST software, DNV Safeti risk software, and FlareSim software.
  • Ability to provide input into various risk reviews.
  • Strong report‑writing skills.
  • Excellent communication skills when working with cross‑functional teams to provide technical safety input on projects.
