Job summary

Hire AI, a Sydney headquartered technology consultancy, is seeking a senior architect/lead to own end-to-end technical solutions for clients and coordinate offshore engineering teams. You will design, document, and defend architectures while occasionally coding to unblock delivery across 10+ projects.

You will work with AI, software, and data at an overview level, guiding projects from initial client engagement through delivery and risk management.

Qualifications

• Stepped past full stack into architecture: design and defend solutions to customers.
• Deep on software and AI across web/mobile apps, integration, overview data.
• Coached or managed an engineering team, ideally offshore.
• You still code occasionally to unblock projects.
• Can manage 10+ projects with CTO-level supervision.

A Sydney headquartered technology consultancy. 100+ people across Australia and Asia. 10+ years in business and growing. They are the trusted technology arm for traditional mid sized businesses.

THE ROLE SUMMARY

You are the technical voice in front of the client. You talk them through the solution, design it, and write the technical design document. Then you hand it to the offshore engineering team, train them on it, and manage them through delivery. You code when a project needs it. Not every day, but you want to. You carry 10+ technical projects at once, front loaded. Design and solutioning up front, then a long tail of check-ins on risks and issues while project managers run the day to day. Software and AI are the focus. Data warehousing at an overview level is enough, specialists are brought in for deep work.

A TYPICAL WEEK

In any given week, you might:

- Sit with a client and walk them through a proposed solution. AI, web or mobile apps, integration, data at an overview level.

- Write or review a technical design document.

- Coach an offshore engineer on a standard, then review their work against it.

- Step into the code yourself to unblock a project or set the standard.

- Check in across your open projects for anything at risk.

- Defend a design decision to a client who is pushing back.

- Scope new work alongside a business development manager and the CTO.

WHAT YOU OWN

- The technical solution, from the first client conversation to the design document.

- The offshore engineering team's standard of work.

- Whether the design holds up when the client or their CTO tests it.

- The risks and issues list across every project you carry.

- The call on when to get hands on and write code yourself.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

- You have stepped past full stack engineer into architecture. You can design a solution and defend it to a customer, not just build it.

- Deep on software and AI. Comfortable across web and mobile apps, integration, and data at an overview level. No data specialism needed.

- You have coached or managed an engineering team, ideally offshore.

- You still code and want to. Not as your main job, but you would miss it.

- You can hold 10+ projects at once, mostly through check-ins.

- Senior enough to run this with minimal supervision from the CTO.

- If you have only ever run one product with one team, this will feel like a lot.
