Job summary

Nine Entertainment Co. Pty Ltd is seeking a Hands-on Technical Lead to head the Streaming frontend development team for Connected TV Web in a hybrid role based in North Sydney, NSW.

You will balance people leadership with direct code contributions, mentoring engineers while remaining a core contributor to TV applications. The role requires 5+ years in software development with at least 2 years in line management or leadership, a strong grasp of scalable API design, and experience with high-scale

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software development experience, including 2+ years in formal line management or technical leadership roles.
• Strong foundation in RESTful services and scalable API design.
• Deep understanding of Agile/Lean practices and CI/CD pipelines.
• Practical experience leveraging AI tools to increase team velocity and modernize development processes.
• Track record of building and maintaining applications serving millions of users.
• Experience with high-volume Video on Demand (VOD), Live streaming, or broadcast technologies.
• Hands-on exposure to cross-platform TV and web ecosystem development.

• Build & Architect: Act as a key individual contributor building high-availability TV Web applications while driving scalable, resilient architecture.
• Champion AI Innovation: Lead the integration of AI coding assistants and automation tools to streamline development workflows.
• Uphold Engineering Standards: Maintain high resilience, scalability, and security through defensive coding, code reviews, testing, and CI/CD.
• Spearhead R&D: Conduct research and spikes into emerging technologies, guiding the team from trial through rollout and success measurement.
• Manage & Coach People: Lead hiring, performance reviews, and career coaching for engineers.
• Mentor & Cross-Skill: Provide direct technical mentorship to level up team capabilities.
• Enable Agile Delivery: Remove technical roadblocks and manage priorities within Scrum frameworks.
• Foster Team Culture: Cultivate a learning-oriented environment with diversity and psychological safety.
• Partner Across Disciplines: Serve as the primary technical voice with Product Managers, Designers, and external partners.
• Translate Tech to Business: Communicate complex roadmaps and AI initiatives into business value.

• Uphold Engineering Standards: Maintain high resilience, scalability, and security through defensive coding, deep-dive code reviews, test automation, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Spearhead R&D: Conduct research and spikes into emerging technologies, guiding the team from initial trial through rollout and success measurement.
• Manage & Coach People: Lead the full employee lifecycle- including hiring, performance reviews, and career coaching- for a team of high-performing engineers.
• Mentor & Cross-Skill: Provide direct technical mentorship to level up team capabilities and eliminate single points of failure.
• Enable Agile Delivery: Remove technical roadblocks and manage competing priorities within Scrum frameworks to consistently meet roadmap commitments.
